I was watching JTL climb on the final stage of the ToB. He has a very similar climbing style to Contador.
Just saying...0 -
And I'm just saying he was climbing up this http://app.strava.com/segments/860269 , hardly the Zoncolan is it!Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0

Well its one thing saying he climbs like Contador, in appearance, yeh maybe, but then again anyone can dance on the pedals up a 5 minute climb if they want to, it means nothing.Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0

So tell me what it means when someone prefers to stand up rather than climb seated? What can possibly be gleaned from that if we don't know his numbers?Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0

okgo not sure why you are reading so much into it. It is a simple observation that he climbs similarly. Also has nothing to do with in or out the saddle....it is actually the way he swings.Contador is the Greatest0

He eats beef like Contador too

In all seriousness yes, he does have a similair climbing style which means absolutely nothing other than that he has a similair climbing style. Enjoyable to watch!0 -

Yeh, just don't understand why it matters how he climbs. It means nothing apart from its different to how someone like Wiggins climbs.Blog on my first and now second season of proper riding/racing - www.firstseasonracing.com0 -
It seems like SKY were doing pretty well in the GTs without JTL. I'd like to see how it gets on in the classics , where SKY have been below par.0
-
Don't they have a Luke Rowe for that?
Anyway enough talk of dirty dopers let us all bask in the light of another great JTL win.+++++++++++++++++++++

The only GT that would make sense for him next year is the Vuelta. If he goes in for the classics and early season stage races then he'll have zero energy left for the Giro. When it comes to the Tour why would Sky break up the team that was so successful this year for a rider who is completely unproven in the Alps and Pyrenees?
So I think his season next year could be centred on the early season then, after a break, maybe go into the Vuelta. Which would probably be the GT most suited to him anyway.0 -
He's been mighty impressive, but I think talk of him leading a GT team is a little premature. He needs to actually ride one for a start.
Next year he should be given the chance to lead a couple of one weekers (i'm think Catalunya/Pais Vasco type races), and maybe have a crack at the hilly classics. He can ride a GT for experience and to help a team mate and if he's feeling good then he can go for a stage. He needs to prove himself a bit more before he's given a GT leadership role ahead of guys like Uran, Henao and Porte."I have a lovely photo of a Camargue horse but will not post it now" (Frenchfighter - July 2013)0 -

Wooh, I wasn't suggesting that he leads a GT team  . If you were replying to me. I was saying that if he were given a spot in a GT team then it would probably be the Vuelta.0 -

Simply because to some fans that is interesting and a distinctive climbing style can add to the 'show'. Depends what aspects of the sport, even little ones, interest you. It does me and MadRapper. If it doesn't you, that's fine.Contador is the Greatest0 -
Define class you can see it in JTL today.+++++++++++++++++++++

Really impressive ride by him today, and looking forward to seeing him step up to this level full time next season. Finally a British rider who is entertaining to watch, and one with style on the bike, panache, and attacking style.0

Fantastic ride, i've never watched a race for so long. When you're too tired to continue you fall off0
-
Anyone know what the odds are for JTL to win Fleche Wallone - Liege Bastogne Liege next year ? get yer money on quick boys.0
-
whatever climbing style he uses lets not forget he was the highest placed british rider at the worlds. ok it horses for courses but the boy done good0
-
He did - great first appearance on the big stage0
-
He's got the legs and the way he rode yesterday, it seems he's got the brains too. Rode a clever race - barely caught any wind and it was the right move for him to get in that break, even though it didn't stick.0

Great result to win the ToB, and a very impressive early season, but the guy has been riding second tier races for the most part. Still unproven on the long climbs you find in grand tours and the long distances involved in classics / semi-classics. He has bags of potential and could live up to the hype, but I think its a bit early to be hailing him as the second coming of Contador. Let's give him a chance to test his mettle at the very highest level and see how he gets on, personally I'd be surprised to see him competing for GC in a grand tour next year but maybe the Ardennes classics and similar could be realistic.
He'll probably go and win on Sunday now I've said all that!
Yep, he's been very good this season and beaten a few good riders in hilly races but people are saying he could have a shot at the Giro - he's never ridden a 3 week race so far! I can see him being put into mountain domestique duty for Froome in the Giro. So far he is looking more along the lines of Uran and Henao and both of those have cracked on longer climbs in GTs. I'm not saying he can't do well but at present he is untested and people are getting a bit carried away.0 -

Cheers for that - I'd been wondering why we hadn't heard much from JTL himself re the Worlds...
It's no great surprise that it was "lights out" for him on the last time up the Cauberg, but then it was for pretty much everyone: and many of them have plenty of experience of riding those distances...
Is there no way Sky can shoe-horn him into the squad for il Lombardia (don't tell me Dave isn't looking into it)?0 -

Yeah its nice to see him getting the press attention.
However more importantly he is on the cover of the MDCC newsletter HUBBUB for his ToB win, which I think we all agree is a bit more impressive.+++++++++++++++++++++

It's interesting to hear him analyse the things he got wrong and criticise his performance constructively. It's the sign of a good professional athlete.0

Just in time for MDCC, what with Hunt retiring... Always got to have Devonian in the continental pro ranks: thems the rules.0
