Thanks Rake.
Anyway, here's a good dealy...get a free poster and leaflets to hand out from 38 degrees: https://secure.38degrees.org.uk/page/s/ ... a#petition"That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0 -
Professor John Ashton, at the Drop the Bill rally on those who seek to destroy the NHS - "From people who know the price of everything and the value of nothing."
Just about sums the whole sorry saga up.
Remeber if you can, Newcastle Quayside @ 11am 10th March for a protest at the Lib Dem conference over the bill. Please attend if you can, PM me with any questions etc. If you don't fight for the NHS, there are people like Cameron who will be only too happy to take it away from you."That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0 -
are you still banging on about this sh*t?

Hehe I'm afraid so.
If you don't stand up for what you believe in, you can't complain when politicians etc take those things away from you."That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0 -
If it goes through it'll be Camerons legacy, bit like, but far more tragically Iraq is that twunt Blairs.
However like him or not at least Blair had a mandate from the nation to do as he did. If that snivelling spinless Clegg had owt about him, he and his party would withdraw their support for the bill and we could breathe a bit easier.Tail end Charlie

I'm a nurse and to be honest I do think there has to be change. You all have to remember because we are part of the EU there has been an absolute massive and I mean massive increase of people from those countries seeking health care here which, inturn has now increased the money needed to maintain it, it's impossible to maintain that kind of money input required I.e. a never ending money pit which, this country cannot afford. I'm not sure what the answer is but Unfortunatly I do think this is the beginning of the end of the free health care system. There's simply just too many people using it for free.0

Great news. Govt. has lost it's appeal to keep risk register secret. Very interesting development.
Oddly now all this rests with the Lib Dems - there is a HoC debate coming up soon and if the Lib Dems vote against the bill then we could see the end of it. This is why the demonstration on Saturday in Newcastle at their conference is so important - need to get the message accross."That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0 -
Oh and listen to this:
Businessman, who is HIV positive, emails Lib Dem MP's with concerns about paying for treatment once bill becomes law. Gets insulting and patronising replies back. Awful.

Max, I admire greatly your stance on all this. You may have answered this already but what is your position in all this?
I am a consultant anaesthetist, to put my position over. I work in Scotland so a lot of the finances in the bill won't apply to us up here. The principles of a lot of it, however are rubbish. The worst one seems to be competition between health systems but there are many more to go along with. So the way all this goes may come back to bite me.
What drives you? There are loads of rubbish bills. Why this one?

Hi Dave thanks for your interest
To be completely open with you, I'm passionate about left-wing politics. And free, universal, not for profit health care is something that I absolutely believe in, unconditionally. But I'm opposed on two counts. The nature of the bill, and I appreciate that to some private involvement in health care is not a big deal and I respect that. We can debate that until we're blue in the face, but I know where I stand. My other point is that the bill is a gross violation of democracy - nobody voted for it (ommitted from all manifestos), government ignores public and professional opinion, government ignores epetition, Lansley refuses to release risk register, the list goes on. Regardless of whether you agree with the contents of the bill or not, I find it hard to see how anyone can consider this an appropriate way to introduce legislation.
The point of democratic government is that it supposedly holds people in power to account. To this end, I consider it essential to protest, kick up a stink or whatever when you don't agree with something, even if it's unpopular or people don't take an interest. David Cameron or Tony Blair can't take away your right to free speech, expression, discussion, protest and assosciation so we should bloody well use it! Until people decide to start doing this, then quite frankly the merry circus that we have now will roll on and on. Agree with it or not, the NHS bill is one of the most important pieces of legislation that post-war Britain has seen. Which is why it's important to kick up such a fuss and not roll over. The Newcastle rally tomorrow that I'll be attending is especially important as the Lib Dems hold key power in government to bring the bill down. But I'll also be sure to remind them of their lies over tuition fees, etc."That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0 -
I like to think my GP is only interested in giving/obtaining for me the best treatment possible, without having to keep one eye on a budget. I do realise GP's for a while have had some control over the budget, but this seems to take it another step further, at least.Tail end Charlie

Great demo and great turnout in Gateshead today.
Unfortunately the Lib Dems have voted in favour of the Health Bill Quite sad about that.
Clearly the fight goes on and there will be more action but I'm not sure what's planned next. Will update when I hear more."That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0 -
If you're concerned about the Health Bill, you can contact your MP here. I'd urge you to get in touch and express concerns, whether Tory Lib Dem or Labour: http://www.theyworkforyou.com/mps/
You'll get a standardised party sanctioned reply but they are human and they do read them and it does make a difference."That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0 -
I bring good news!
Lib Dems at their conference have now voted *not* to back Health Bill. This means Lib Dem MP's and peers are free to vote against the Bill (and defeat it) in the Commons and Lords. If Lib Dems vote with Labour then there's a good chance the bill will be defeated.
I think the next step is to start lobbying MP's and Lords like never before. Will post details when I know more."That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0 -

Still can't complain. Tories got elected in landslide victory fair and square on their manifesto promises to privatise the NHS."That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0

Latest: Labour are pressing the Speaker this afternoon to allow for an emergency debate on the Health Bill and to get the govt. to publish Risk Register before Bill becomes law. If sucessful, could potentially push back the Bill becoming law until after Easter."That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0

Woohoo! Speaker John Bercow has granted Labour's debate on the Risk Register for tomorrow. Good news, all is not lost!"That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0
