Tonights fettle was fitting the foam grips, the new wave disc and new RED disc bolts.
Also got round to taking the emergency tube i put in the front tyre and gone back to tubeless0 -
So a little update, Had a few rides on her now, one trail centre and some more local natrual stuff.
She is fast and comftable, also very manoverable compared to other 29ers i've had. Now i have the shock sorted and set it up (which has taken a long time) its brilliant, climbs very well.
I have managed to break 2 mech hangers  one by the chain getting stuck because it was full of wet sandy nastyness from bedgbury and one when the jocky wheel fell out and again got the chain stuck
The Hope M4's that i said i was going to have off a friend i have had to cancel due to a change in the mortgage but i should be able to get a new set of brakes before wales at the end of april? fingers crossed?
Anyway this turned up

So the rear mech hangers finally turned up today, so its been a fettle night.
New hanger fitted, chain put back to correct length, mech fitted.
Goes up and down the gears and then the chain gets stuck on the rear mech when in the bigger rings. looks like the mech had twisted (in one of the previous incidents) straightened the cage and tried again. little better so twisted some more and seems to be fine?
New bottle holder fitted, really hard to tell any weight difference between the cheepo one and this one
New pads fitted to the front, why is it that new pads (these are kevlar ones from carbon cycles) are always that little bit too big  anywhoo nice to have a ride round the block with the dog. and nice to be back in the saddle again.
Night ride tomorrow night, then if all being well an actual proper ride sunday?0 -
At least you could straighten your mech... the last one I broke was after I rode "a bit too close" to a tree stump and completely trashed the parallel mechanism bit.0

that's strangely reminiscent, yes...0

So, had a full on ride out last night at proper pace, really pleased she handles well. just need to up my game now to keep up!
Converted away from single ring up front and mounted the direct mount front derailiure. no more excuses for not making those steep hills!
Fitted the Xking 2.4 to the front (awesome looking tyre BTW) and a 2.1 WTB Prowler to the rear, the prowler is light and is being a bit alusive with staying up tubeless but looking forward to trying them out.

i have been tempted by this idea also.
i was thinking On One 456 Summer Season with some 160mm coil Lyrics and single speed?2011 KHS Full Susser Carbon 29er Race BuildClank wrote:M'eh, I might just go back to zapping it with frikken lay-zur beeeems. And sharks.0 -

yeah suppose if you were to use it to ride uphill also.
but as a pure DH machine i would have a nice coil fork, single speed for less chance of chain loss and a tough wheelset.2011 KHS Full Susser Carbon 29er Race BuildClank wrote:M'eh, I might just go back to zapping it with frikken lay-zur beeeems. And sharks.0 -
I was thinking a do it all kinda thing.
I got the 29er for long fun stuff and trail centres, build a rigid 29er single smugness for commuting and a hardcore Ht for fun?0 -
So this week i've been soooooo busy at work but i have still managed to get out and ride a few times and order a few bits.
Mainly because my old chain was stiffer than a crudites "special" sock
Bought a nearly new Joplin 4 to replace the Joplin 3 that died a death after a very wet sandy ride in Bedgbury. but its gold bling not red, i will have to rectify this. i could take the bits off the old joplin but its all wearing out or pink.
Anyway, new project to start0 -
Where did you get the jockey wheels and rotor bolts from mate?0
-
Jockey wheels from dealextreme.com $6 each and their sealed bearings too!
Rotor bolts from superstar, but I have some Ti ones now0 -
