I thought this, but the 'bung' has a hex key socket on the top, mines 8mm, to tighten the bung in the steerer. Bolting down the top cap does tighten it up a bit, but not enough and it soon wobbled.Visit Clacton during the School holidays - it's like a never ending freak show.
Who are you calling inbred?0 -

I have just asked the question as they put up that their using a 165mm shock, Hmm :?0 -
-
Right so today i was going to try a 184mm shock, but did get to try a few other things.
First off measured again the i2i
picked up a 165mm shock off a friend, as thats what the crazy yanks on MTBR are using.
before swapping them over i measured the head angle, 75'
so i put the 165mm shock on.
so not only does it have to move quite a long way in (so loosing travel) it decreases the head angle by 5'
So i'm going to order the Monarch 184mm shock
In the mean time i took some photos in the snow.

Surfbum, I'd definitely get a 165mm, a 75 degree head angle is hugely steep! 70 degree is around right for that sort of bike. And, the real travel of a bike is how far the rear wheel will move, not how far the shock can move, if that makes sense!0
-
I know that, but with the 165 shock the rear has already moved 20mm in. So lowering the bb, and increasing the slack headangle. Remember on a 29er you use a steeper angle to keep the steering sharp.0
-
Even for a 29er a 75 degree head angle is ugely steep! The Planet x dirt harry is 71, Spesh epic 70.5, Scott spark 29er 70, for example.
What was the wheels base and bb height with the 165 shock?0 -
I'll have to re measure tomorrow now. Its only a phone app I was using so could be out? Certainly feels a lot more slack than my scandal0
-
It bugged me that much, just went out to the shed.
Right measured it on the sanctions at 72' with the longer shock.0 -
VERY nice ... giz a go mister0

-
If it's 72, with the longer shock, I'd say go for it!0

After todays ride in the snow we managed to weigh all our bikes. So Inc 2.4 big ass mountain kings (with tubes) V8 pedals and light fittings it comes in at

So I bought a new fox 185 fox RP2. Its too big.
Bugger.
So now at least I know for sure its a 165mm shock I need
So sending new fox back and the hunt starts again.0 -
very nice
...but what is the frame?0 -
Going by the 165 shock, the internal routing to the rear shock, where the rear brake is you gotta think its the Scott spark 290
-
cool.
did you get it via alibaba.com or direct from the factory?0 -

Right a quick update:
I purchased a Fox float RL with propedal 2 position lever jobbie.
It rides fantastically now in propedal position, but when its fully open it could be any old full bouncer.
New front disc has been ordered (to get rid of the harsh lightweight clarkes one that makes the front end judder like bitch) but i also ordered some red bolts to hold them on
The weight loss program has also progressed, lightweight foam grips have been ordered (50g a pair) and i'm looking for a replacement bottle cage of the carbon variety0 -
