    I'm getting heavier (this isn't how things should go at this time of year, right?), but getting faster.

    An all-time PB today, and the first time I've gone under even 56 mins for a solo ride in a couple of years, so very chuffed with that.

    Still a bit gutted though because I headed out this morning for a steady, pre-breakfast six laps, but then decided after lap 1 to head home for a ride with the kids, so sped up on lap 2. Had just over 20 secs to make up on the third lap for a first-ever sub-54, and it was touch and go, but popped a rear spoke on the speed bump at Pembroke Lodge (maybe this is linked to the weight gain...) on the final stretch to Kingston Gate, so the rear wheel was rubbing against the brake block. Dagnabbit!!!

    So, the lap times were roughly: 18:22, 17:59, 17:39.

    Did this on a road bike, but with carbon wheels.
    FCN 2-4.

    Yes, must go faster. More snot needs to fly on the first two laps. :)

    What I've found over the last couple of years is that I can't go balls-out on the first lap; I need to warm-up first, otherwise it's a shock to both the legs and lungs. So I almost need to do a steady first lap, then time myself over laps 2-4.

    Bit of a headwind up Sawyers today, in fact from Roehampton to Kingston. Nice little push over the top of Dark Hill though and back up to Roehampton. Probably went out a tiny bit hard on first lap (16:19) but got slowed by traffic next two laps so fairly happy with pacing and happy to go under 50mins. Road bike but cheated a bit with clip ons (getting used to them for Milburys prologue).

    Super happy. Managed to do my best time and some 5 minutes off my time I set in January and almost 2 minutes quicker than my best last year. No real obstructions and a bit of a head wind in parts, the wrong parts I might add—mainly Sawyers hill :roll: , but it's to be expected in the park.

    Lap 1: 18'10" (slowed for some ducks)
    Lap 2: 17'45" (slowed for deer—only a little though)
    Lap 3: 17'18" (clear run)

    Had a great run aside for some caution around the ducks and the deer. Oh and a driver overtaking 2 riders on my side on Broomfield hill. Love that only had to scrub a bit of speed.

    Think sub-53 is possible soon. A few more longer efforts should do it.

    General training but turned out be faster than previous 3LC efforts this year, despite strong headwind up Sawyers and on training bike with aksium wheels/heavy tyres. Did get some assistance from a couple of VO2 kids for part of the second lap but popped them out the back over top of dark hill.

    I'm quite chuffed, this being the first time I've done the '3-lap challenge'. I kept on going, completing 6 laps in 1hr 59min 23sec (including 10-15 seconds almost-stopped behind cars queuing for the parking on my last lap). I'm now enjoying a few recovery beers!

    Keen commuter looking to get into longer distances. I sometimes do a couple of laps as part of longer routes but this was a first effort for this last night. It was pretty wet and there was a hectic wind for the most part (what's new) and I use toe clips which are useless...looking to improve considerably this summer...

    Anyone wondering where Nic Hutchings is, he was 3rd in the National 10 today. A ride from the top drawer.

    Now, why is that Ben Jacobs bloke still appearing with "Road" after his name when he quite clearly said "with clip-ons" in his post? Hmm? Ben?

    He'll be back to edit it to say "TT bike" in a bit, I'm sure.

    Talking of which, do any of you lot wantg to ride the Richmond Park Time Trial? Race 1 now full but still spaces in race 2.

    OT but it's a shame that the National 10 always falls on the same weekend as all the divisional champs road races -- as I'm sure Nic would have put in a fair showing there too, had he had the chance. In fact, a whole lot of good road racers would be ace at the 10 mile TT distance.... maybe they should put the National 100 on the 3rd weekend in May instead? :wink:

    Picked up the road bike a couple of weeks ago after a 15 year break, so it's my first try here. Lots of traffic and some mad deer crossing the road, but loved the hot weather and the challenge. When I lose some of my extra 15kg I will try again!!!

    EDIT: now checked Garmin and not quite as fast as Strava suggested, still a PB though in what weren't great conditions (a lot of traffic, quite blowy) so I reckon there's another minute or so there on an ideal run...
