Actually, they were great this morning, it was sheet ice on my commute. Probably will be tomorrow too. :P

I did, well Snow Studs anyway, and they've had about 20 outings this winter so far. And yes, it has been a disappointing winter round here as well (for us skiers anyway) - but that still means ice on the roads, often untreated, on what must be an average of one morning in 4 or so.

    Hehe, me!

I also bought the CX for winter commuting

And winter tyres for the car

Oh well, I needed (car) tyres anyway, and it's been around zero degrees plenty of times when I've been driving to/from work, they're winter tyres, not 'snow' tyres, after all.

The CX is used on the boring local off road stuff too, and I'll be getting rid of the Ribble. I haven't missed it since I started using the CX in October, it's not really any quicker, but it's more attractive to theives and less practical.

As it turned out, the Winter Marathons weren't needed, but they weren't a huge expense and they'll come in useful one day!

Only put them on to bed them in. Took them off again the next day..

I demand some snow. I put the Studs on when it got icy a week or so before Christmas, kept them on since 'just in case' still only one day with snow and it didn't last.

Maybe I should take them off.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

Well, I did last year and I didn't need them that much then - and not at all this year so far! Still, I have just recieved 14 million spare studs from Schwalbe

I could send you some down if you want. Would probably need to hire a refrigerated lorry to get it down to the warmer climes of Engerland though.

Marathon W***ers bought and used too. In fact, needed Ice Spiker Pros on the MTB instead on at least a couple of occasions. The only thing that I've bought that it's not quite cold enough for is my Castelli Mannaggia jacket - not yet really been much colder than freezing - not the -5 to -11C of last winter (so far). Loads and loads of black ice up here though - ice tyres are essential. Really glad I sorted winter tyres on the car too.

I can't read that without reading "Castelli Mangina" instead.

Perhaps. We seem to be in a bubble here though. Go a couple of miles in any direction and the roads will be soaking wet from a downpour, but it will have been dry here. Same happened with the snow last winter.
