Got this:

24th November 2011 - Update
(snip)
As I have stated many times throughout this year, I am expecting a more sustained blocking pattern in comparison to last year, that will bring frequent cold and above normal snow to many parts of the UK and Ireland this winter. It is therefore a logical conclusion that snowfall or temperature records could be broken within this defined time frame, or for the winter as a whole. I still expect many northern regions, Scotland, and parts of Ireland to experience the worst of these conditions.

Scotland will begin to see snowfall mainly across high ground as we head into this weekend. Snow will continue to affect Scotland and become more widespread within this region as we head into next week, with an increasing possibility of snow to lower parts of the UK and Ireland, as we head into the final few days of November and the first third of December. The remainder of December as a whole is likely to feature largely below-average temperatures, with some deep and widespread snow accumulations across many parts of the UK and Ireland, that will continue into January and February. Any required updates will be posted accordingly.

  • We've had snow already at sea-level but also plenty of snow on the hills I can see from my house (like Ben Wyvis). I'm just hoping the winter wheels & tyres I ordered from Merc 7 weeks ago turn up soon

Didn't he say "This will bring frequent and widespread heavy snowfalls during November" a while ago?

I'm happy for him to be proved right now that I've got a winter bike and winter tyres on the car. All this 12C weather is making me look like a mug!

true? "Head into next week" was yesterday and the day before. Today's the 30th of Nov and AFAIK there's been zero "possibility of snow" to lower parts of the UK and Ireland.

    Busted.

Yup - it was shorts riding weather this week. My winter tights are still hanging up with the tags on.

The guy basically just makes it up. One of his sockpuppets was on this very forum a few months ago defending the fact that he sells this guesswork to gullible journalists who like to google their stories...

Edit: Actually, he's the thread: viewtopic.php?f=40012&t=12802783&hilit=james+madden

"As we head towards winter, I expect to see the first signs of some moderate to heavy snowfalls as early as October or November in certain parts of the UK."

    Yeah, making it up.

I'm still waiting to fit the winter tyres

What kind of blithering idiot would call a weather forecasting business 'Exacta weather'?

Anyway, tomorrow is the anniversary of the big midday snowfall that caused untold panic exoduses from city centres and comedy gridlock for the car drivers. More seriously, it caused me my slowest commute of the year of exactly 1 hour to travel the 6.5 miles home (thanks to the traffic blockages rather than the snow)!
    Faster than a tent.......
  • Can I have a go?.

'It may be cold in some places, but then again not so cold in others. I forecast it will rain in some parts of the UK over the next 3 months and there's also the possibility of snow in some areas too. Most of the UK will experience either dry weather or wet weather at one time or another or not as the case may be'.

You should make yourself a website, copy and paste the above into it, add something controversial about global warming being boll0cks and then wait for the tabloids to start offering you cash for print.
  • It's all my fault, I returned my Airjack the other day thinking it'd be too warm to get enough wear out of throughout the winter.

I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.
  • This morning is my most MTFU weather: 1.7C heavy rain and 20mph wind - foul combination. Still, we're up to it!

Cold, driving rain this morning, but still in shorts. In fact very unusual if I am out of shorts. they are good down to -5C

  • Still shorts weather round here too. This time last year we'd seen a couple of snowfalls, and Monday marks the anniversary of my 'collar bone breaking off' ... not a fond memory!

I never wear shorts commuting owing to passing remarks about spaghetti and string - however I'm still in summer trousers, lightweight top and fingerless gloves.
  • Long range forecast predicts snow for next week in north east England, hopefully will develop into nothing more than rain.

All weather forecasters are simply 21st century shamens, I wouldn't trust them to tell me the weather outside their window

Case for the prosecution: "Barbeque Summer". Prosecution rests, I thank you.

It's just a hill. Get over it.
  • The roads this morning were sheet ice. The heavy rain yesterday had frozen solid. To make matters worse, there was water on the ice. Thank fork for studded tyres.

I think sensible forecasters are often misrepresented by the media and PR. The Met Office's science-y people said:
The strapline 'odds on for a barbeque summer' was created by the operations and communications teams to reflect the probability of a good summer. Concern over the use of the strapline and its relationship to the scientific information available was expressed by the scientific community, who were not consulted prior to the media release

  • Well... the long range forecasts that my work pay for say no major snowfalls before Jan. And that's after we've gone out and bought several mini snow ploughs for clearing car parks and distribution centres.
  • We've got a Met Office "awareness" warning for snow on Sun night

Mercedes, having promised me winter wheels/tyres this week at the latest, have let me down.

  • Disappointed with lack of snow - this time last year, deep and crisp and even. This year, a colleague at work still has strawberries in his garden. It's all wrong (and the LibDems are to blame, along with the wig, Clarkson and the Schwalbe fairy who trousered good money for winter rubber).

  • Well we have our first settled snow of the year. Nothing significant/disruptive yet but the forecast for snow on Wunderground at least stretches out the whole week.
