Ford Puma, Honda S2000, TVR Chimaera 4.5, Nissan 200SX, heavily modified MX5, Ford Mondeo. Strangely the waning in quality of my cars corresponds nicely with the arrival of kids :(

I have a much longer list of cars that I will own some day :D

To many. All crap bar the Alfa.
  • '88 black Ford Fiesta - my mum's old car; engine had a tendency to stall as you approached roundabouts and junctions; sold to an unsuspecting relative (brother-in-law, I think)

'97 silver Nissan Micra - bought new, owned for eight years or so; pretty good until the sill underneath began to rust and fall off; sold for a grand

'02 light blue Fiat Punto - bought new, still got it, no major problems; needs a wash

'54 silver Ford Focus C-Max - bought 2nd hand when we needed a bigger vehicle to pile pushchairs and other child paraphenalia; got rid after four years when its computer failed twice in eight months, costing me £800 each time

'10 black Citroen C3 Picasso - bought new to replace the C-Max; still got it, love it; needs a wash

Very limited list for me, I tend to find a car and remain faithful:

1989 Rover Metro City X in hearing aid beige.
    1989 Citroen AX GT
    1991 Citroen BX16V (Still have)
    1999 Renault Clio 1.6 RXE
1988 Citroen Visa Gti (meant to be turned into a sprint car, but taken away by the council)
2000 Nissan Primera 1.8S Estate (Still running very well)
2003 Lotus Elise 111S (Owned for about 18 months)

One slightly weird fact I have noticed, is that seemingly every (Not that I have bought many) car I have bought, has been either 7 years old, or within a few months of being 7 years old when I have bought it.

cars I have hankered after from time to time:
    Renault 5 GT Turbo
    Audi Quattro
    Porsche 944 S2
    Mk2 Escort RS2000
    Lotus Sunbeam
    Felt F70 05 (Turbo)
Marin Palisades Trail 91 and 06
    Scott CR1 SL 12
    Cannondale Synapse Adventure 15 & 16 Di2
    Scott Foil 18

Marina 1.8 Super. Free bacause the need for a £10 part wrote it off as far as the previous owner was concerned.
Triumph Spitfire. Bought when I was 21 because the need for a convertible was great and there wasn't much in the way of cheap convertibles. By the time I'd finished it had over 130bhp and would top 120mph. A friend of mine still owns it.
Volvo 343. Awful, but free as well.
    Triumph Vitesse
Lancia Fulvia Zagato. Gorgeous but rotten as a pear.
    Golf Convertible
    Regular Golf
    Handa Accord Aerodeck
    Peugeot 406 Estate (company car)
    Volkswagen Passat Estate
    ALFA 156 estate
Again, it's quite clear when the kids arrived. Motorbike history is quite good. Mainly old 1960s Triumphs and a Ducati.

    Oo, not too glam for me either, but something on the lines of;

    Hillman Imp (passed test in!)
Mini, mini, mini, mini, iterate quite a lot (still got a speedster project in the garage)
    Peugeots 205, 405 estate, 306 Diesel T (cracking car)
Fords Escort and (briefly 'cos it was a total POS) Fiesta
    Volvo 440 (I liked this)
Vauxhall Senator 3 litre (grin machine, but required a loyalty card at Esso)
    Fiat Punto
Landrover series 2/3 hybrid with a V8 petrol (made the Vaux look teetotal in it's thirst but FUN with a capital FUN)
Rover 75 (aah, luxury. Fall asleep every fifty miles in it's leathered submarine silence)
Audi A4 (Teutonic boredom. Highly efficient and...erm.....)
Golf GTD wid all da trimmins. That's ma ride now innit, no dogs or fat burds.

    Probably forgot a few.

Ah! Suziki Vitara (not the pretty hairdressers one with the fat wheels, but the cubist one, with a small diesel, and an automatic box, and no stereo - wrist slitting misery)
FCN 5 belt driven fixie for city bits
CAADX 105 beastie for bumpy bits
    Litespeed L3 for Strava bits

Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.

    W plate VW Golf V6 4Motion (2.8L)

    Short list:

Escort MkI (post test; ran it for a year for the NCB and got rid. Horrible thing).
Scirocco (the original. I gotta a lotta fond memories o' that car).
Golf 16V (mk II; oak green & leather. Knees of a bee, was I)
BM E36 328 coupe and then E46 328 saloon. Meh. Went a bit wayward there.
A8 4.2. Had that for 11 years and counting. Great stuff. Got it when the kids arrived because the BM was too small for child crap. I recommend waftobarges as family buses.

    Same age as the OP

    1. 1990 Ford Escort 1.4 - sold
2.1998 Ford Escort Estate 1.6 - sold to my dad
    3. 2003 Ford Focus 1.4 (pattern emerging) - sold too many problems
    4 1999 Ford Mondeo ST24 Estate 2.5 V6 - part ex'd too many problems
5 2003 Ford Ka (bit of a come down) - just part ex'd great for years then big problem with abs system
6 The 98 'scort again for a bit - MOT fail sold to a mechanic
    7 2003 Ford C-Max 1.8 - Part ex'd too many problems
8 2010 Hyndai i30 1.6 CRDI (Fcuked of with Fords and their p!ssing electrical problems)

Chopped the KA and C-Max in for the Hyundai, loving it so far. Still got 4 years warranty on it too. Still love Fords, no idea why they've always let me down. If one day I can afford to waste money on cars again I'd probably buy a brand new ford with a warranty. Or if I've got loads of money to waste on cars I'd love a Mk1 Escort Mexico 2 door.

    2002 Volvo S60 T5 - Sold it to a mate
    2006 BMW 530i Touring - Still have

Considering I'm 35 that's a pretty short list. Comes from living in places I could walk every where or that had public transport I suppose. We've never really needed anything economical either as we do about 9,000 miles a year and most of it is either holidays to France or trips to see family at opposite ends of the country.

Also, a 316 compact. Wasn't mine, but I had a secure parching space with my flat and my mate round the corner had a company car. Share and share alike and all that.

Holey Cats - this thread does help explain who owned some of the shocking cars on the road!

I suppose it was too much to expect the "Commuting" section of a cycling forum to come up with a list of mouthwatering exotica :D

Some interesting stuff hidden in there though (CiB's 1/2 Escort for instance)

  • Fiat Punto - Great stuff.
Renault Megane DCi - Economical stuff on a 3-year lease
Citroen C5 - The worst car I've ever had, used to want to kick it every time I got out. Again, 3-year lease.
Audi A6 Avant- Sheer loveliness, it was 10 years old when I bought it, with 107,000 miles on the clock, no problems in the next two years at all.

Now? No car for me. The Mrs. has a Mazda 5, though.

Awful selection of cars chosen for practicality and cost of running. I don't drive now. Insurance is ridiculous but I fancy a 7 series BMW. They are stupidly cheap on eBay. So cheap you could buy one and replace it when it broke.

Cars owned by my dad in last 10 years -

    1965 Jaguar E Type Series 1 DHC 4.2
    1963 Jaguar E Type Series 1 FHC 3.8
    1966 Jaguar S Type 3.8
    MGB GT

    Short list: no variation

'68 Citroen ID 19B (DS) - Absolute nail: Curbed, crashed, thrashed and rusted in two. Sold for scrap - still on the road and still a death trap
'70 Citroen DSpecial - Some old bloke spent thousands on the mechanicals: new everything. Bought for alot less - currently in for repair after some old bint clobbered it with an old Mitsubishi Lancer Auto (the shame).

Oddly both cars black with a white roof, but the new one has an enormous rag top - and no rust.
