    Chris Rock.

Frank Skinner has always done great stand-up, not so keen on his chat show thing. Jack Dee when he first appeared was fantastic as a stand-up too as is John Bishop, his TV stuff is definitely not as sharp. Bill Bailey as well.

Character wise I really enjoyed the Fast Show, not really enjoyed a sketch show anywhere near as much since.

A slightly lesser known one I guess is Dom Irrera, saw a few of his routines on the paramount channel years ago, he was superb.

    Comedians:

Lee Mack, Bill Bailey, David Mitchell, Aristophanes (pretentious I know, but his comedies work 2,500 years later) somebody else whose name I can't remember but wears glasses.

    Characters:

Basil Fawlty, Niles Crane, Tyres (Spaced), Holly (Red Dwarf), Humphrey Appleby and Bernard Woolley (Yes Minister), anyone out of the Simpsons apart from that ****ing unfunny clown, Pontius Pilate (Life of Brian), The Dead Ringers' impersonations of Patrick Moore, Dr. Who and Brian Sewell.

    Comedy writers:

Douglas Adams, Franquin (French comic strip writer famous on the continent for Gaston Lagaffe)

James Corden - total comedy genius. A very likeable guy. I will sit for hours in front of the TV in the hope that he may come on.

a good few of those already mentioned & a couple of current performers not mentioned so far

    Simon Munnery & Jon Richardson

Bobby Thompson (for the Geordie contingent to nod at) & Ivor Cutler was brilliant & bizarre.

Armstrong & Miller C4 series were superb

characters, the league of gentleman, a few misses but almost all grotesque or tragic masterpiece creations.

and Douglas Adams was the daddy of writers
