Predictions.

I'm a little interested in predictions at the moment.

Playing around with the PTP figured when I can be bothered.

I also have a habit of making cast iron predictions about races and riders.

It's about time I called myself up on a big one.

I said Evans would never win a GT, let alone the Tour, and that he should focus on one-dayers.

I very much stand corrected.

Anyone else want to own up to spurious predictions that have been blown out of the water?

I once boldly stated that Andre Greipel would never win a stage of the Tour de France

Pretty much all predictions I made have been blown out of the water. Anton to win the Vuelta was the biggy for me though. I was feverishly trying to convince my old man to have a bet on him, fortunately he didn't take my tip and likely will not any other in future based on that
He took great pleasure ripping my prediction apart each time Anton cracked.

They were lots of people on here who said Wiggins would never be a capable Stage Racer... :P

I remember slagging off Geox by saying they would never show anything in a GT.

I once said Cavendish would never amount to much.

And I was right, he's good at sprinting but that's hardly cycling.

Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.

My most recent was that Cav would never win this years worlds instead favouring Gilbert, Hushovd or Sagan.

Didn't mind being wrong though ;-)

    Exactly, this is it really.

We all love to make predictions, because, if you're right, you're a hero, and if you're wrong no-one will notice.

I intend to hold people (in jest) accountable for big cast iron predictions, to see if it improves the quality of them.

We have our first bold prediction. The 2012 Tour route isn't even officially announced yet, and:

With that in mind, another prediction I have made in the past is that Tony Martin will never come in the top ten of a GT.

It would be quicker to list the predictions i've made that have actually come true, most of them are complete tosh. Road racing is not a science, which is why we all love it (apart from Iain, everyone knows he hates cycling).

If you are looking for a prediction now i'd say Wiggins will podium in the TdF next year (if that route leak is true).

Assuming Contador is not banned i'll throw my hat in the ring and say Contador-Evans-Wiggins podium in that order. If Bertie is banned then Evans-Wiggins-Menchov.

You're talking the Belgian born brit, as opposed to the Kenyan one, and the scouser than can swim :)

Andy Schleck will win the TdF 2012, you heard it here first.

Voeckler won't make top 10 in the 2012 Tour...
  • I predicted Cunego to win the TDF after his Giro win in 2004 so got that wrong.
Big prediction for next year is that Contador wins the Tour after escaping a ban..
Long term prediction is neither Schleck ever wins the Tour.

I think I said the same thing about Jakob Fuglsang after people were bigging him up after he was doing well in the first week of the Vuelta. It puzzles me why people rate him so highly.

I also think Pierre Rolland will flop pretty badly in the next 2/3 years.

That is an unbelievable shout, and one I shall challenge.

He absolutely will not win the Tour.

    Game on.

    ....

Frank Schleck will not fall off and break something in 2012 :D

    :O Twofold.

Terrible use of the word podium, and a big shout.

    Anyone going to challenge?

I don't think it's that crazy a call, Backstedt won it so i'd say he could become an outsider for PR in the next few years.

No worse a use of the phrase podium than of your use of the phrase "a big shout" Rick
