8) 30 laps anybody?
I'll do it. When I move my other bike down here that has the dinner plate climbing sprocket (25T). I think it'd be needed for 30 laps!Ben

Well Swains is usually a hill which I attack. I don't have the minerals to attack it 30 times in a row (assuming direct laps) and I would definitely get bored climbing it at Alpe d'Huez pace; only so many times I can stare at that brick wall and marvel at the architecture of Highgate cemetry.Ben

I took the wimps way out today and did the west hill rather than swains, i forget how much it pitches at the top - but was still pleased to have climbed it especially as there was a guy pushing his bike up it. there was far to much traffic though so will tackle the real hill (swains) tomorrow."If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got."

Highgate West is a good old climb, and like you say with the kick at the end I think it's as hard as Swains.0 -
Did Swains Lane again today. Made two mistakes though: cold legs, crappy breakfast.
I don't know which Strava segment we go by on this thread, but I posted times as follows:

Well, I've got the KOM on Swains Lane (Bus Stop) which is what we are using here 8)

Also, added and updated the table.0 -
Just wondering - which way do you come down?
I've started to do laps, but haven't found a great solution for the decent. Highgate West Hill and Hillway have too many speed bumps and they work my braking hands too much. Plus... I really don't want to have to replace the brake pads any more often. Swains Lane is one-way and quite narrow, so not ideal either.0 -
I just went up and then down Swains Lane. Was late Sat evening so no real traffic to speak of.0

That time up Swains is either a mistake or done on a moped. There is no way the geezer is faster than the top guys like Germain Burton, who started further up (albeit standing start) http://www.urbanhillclimb.com/2011/07/r ... limb-2011/-- Dirk Hofman Motorhomes --0

quite it looks fine in terms of trace, ie following the road, and speed even. strava power readings are fantasy stuff any way.0 -
I don't care if the dude is faster than me or not. I have only just signed up for Strava, have barely ridden this year or last, and am 4-5kgs over what my race weight used to be. However, I am suspicious of the time compared to a future pro like Germain and a current pro like Dave Clarke. It doesn't quite stack up right, which is why I believe there's some kind of glitsch in the system.-- Dirk Hofman Motorhomes --0

Not sure what you're on about. I haven't logged any rides on Strava. I am just vaguely interested in this as it's my old stomping ground for hill reps and I know what times top racers like Germain and Clarkey can do on the hill.-- Dirk Hofman Motorhomes --0 -

Not really (& a lot of people are much faster than me). I think it's a mistaken recording. I compare to past performances.

18mph ave up there is very impressive. I almost hope it's true because full credit to the man! I'm happy I got KOM for 2 days0

he's using the iphone the watts etc will be made up tosh.
The trace over land looks fine to my glance, as does the speed line.
what about that recording looks iffy?0 -

Nothing on the recording makes it look iffy. Compared to past performance it does look a bit iffy. An example would be the comparable ally pally hill which I link to. He's slow on that (half the speed of the quickest) and has a average hr of 156 so working reasonably hard.FCN 9 || FCN 50 -

I haven't looked at the recording. It's just the speed and the time up the hill compared to top racers. It doesn't stack up. Look again at the Urban Hill Climb times.-- Dirk Hofman Motorhomes --0 -

Never mind. At the end of the day, it's Strava, not the Tour de France.-- Dirk Hofman Motorhomes --0
