***EDIT - Tite Changed as date is confirmed - route added on page 2***

Going to be heading to my parents in glossop on the weekend of the 8th & 9th October and i'll be taking my bike and riding both days.

The aim is to do a variation on cut gate and do a full day ride starting from the Rough Wood car park off the A57 on the west side of Ladybower. West round Crook Hill and then North toward ashton clough.

Its a long ride and i havent done it for a very very long time, i'll get an OS map route put up,

Anyone is welcome to join in, im not the fittest person out there but im not a couch potato as Waylander and VWsurfbum can confirm. No idea what the weather will be but being a derbyshire lad a bit of rain never, ever hurt anyone....and as its only october, jackets are banned! ( :D )

i'll keep this thread updated with the planned routes and the meeting time for those who want to get involved.

    Jackets are banned you say?

Can I let you know the day before?

That side of Derbs is hilarious in the wet - greasy rock and lots of 'whahey'!!

Well, I needed an excuse to buy some winter rubber.

clank nah coats are not banned, i was just talking up my hard northern side......i like to think im still a northerner after 7 years in bristol!

winter rubber will be a must, i'm not sure my Specialized captains will be up to the job, but i will have to wait and see.

    NOTE TO ALL
This isnt a discussion about a ride, i am going riding on this weekend and thought to open it up to people, there will be banter there will be humour in bad taste and im not getting in to an discussion about whether my route is tosh or not......its my ball and i will take it home, these are my toys and i will throw them out of the pram.

sorry if this sounds grumpy but i just want to put it out there instead of trying to organise something mamouth with constant changes.

    The route is based on
    http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=iavrtmmfsaxzkjlq

This is the MBR Killer Loop from some time back, but with a different starting point as i am selfish and the Crook Hill Car Park is closer to glossop, but if people know better i am willing just to run with the route.

Its going to be cold i would have thought but i am still contemplating camping over night and heading out for a shorter loop on the 9th, but this is very much TBC.
  • Kaiser I am tempted by this. Where abouts in Glossop will you be? Could be worth sorting lifts or something as I will be back in Glossop that weekend.

Hardtail FTW though, none of this pansy full sus malarky!

Unfortunately I only own a full sus, I will have access to a fully rigid 1999 gt backwoods though which could be interesting! Very similar to the zaskar le frame if I remember rightly......

BenWatson89 > I'll be near north road when I'm back in Glossop, what about you?
  • Hmm I can see a challenge coming along!

Kaiser I will be up in Shirebrook so not too far away. Something to arrange closer to the time.

Yeah definitely, might have another mate from shire brook coming too, he owns a new Orange in that awful pink colour! You can't miss him or it!
  • I actually have not seen him. I know that pink is rather bright but I am currently dahnn south. Which side of shirebrook does he live? (That really makes it sound like a ghetto)

New tyres defo on the cards for this.

Damp at Cannock this morning and the Nobbys were slicker than dog snot on a sheet of teflon.

I sense High Rollers in my future

Kaiser - grew up around Bristol. 20 years in the Midlands and I still don't want to be considered local!

....having said that 20 years in the midlands and I still can't sound like a local! :?

    samyg, Big Question

the more the merrier, as long as the wether holds up and it isnt gale force hurricane conditions we should be fine!

clank i'll be looking for recommendations on tyres as the Specialized Captains are shot and just seem to slip off nearly everything!
  • I'm not sure if this will be of any use to you, but I'm doing the BHF Peak District Challenge on the 8th October. Some of you might want to get involved. Always good fun with plenty of riders!
  • might be a little stupid but is this on or off road. off i am in, only 20 minutes away and also want to give the new bike a bash at the peaks.

    cheers

I ride the peaks a lot and find that for tyre choice you can't go far wrong by fitting MUD X's at this time of year. They work a treat and there's not much of the Peak's I've not ridden.
I'm going to blow the bank on a new build ( within reason ) NOW DONE!!

    +1 for Mud X's.

I tend to run ghetto tubeless 2.0 " s works sauserwinds however they to tend to wear quickly but are ruddy grippy. May just through the old Panaracer XC Pro's on.

Also guys get remember to bring some spare brake pads and put some new ones n and bed them in. The grit can chew through pads super quick.

Im excited about this, I adore cut gate.

Edit: they are 2.0 not 2.1" may be too narrow for you!

Cheers mate I'll have a look into to those.

You don't wanna join in for the day? I posted it in the cc but someone moaned that it should be in here, basically I'm heading out for the day and if people want to pop along they are welcome but this isn't me leading the pack or anything.

I'm going to post a route in the next week or so, I'll be expecting your critical opinion as a seasoned peak rider!

The ride is going to take place on the 8th, this is due to the Dark Peak Mountain bike challenge taking place on the 9th and i dont want to take part or get in their way!

This is my proposed route, in either direction,

    http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=312391

i dont know which way would be best so open to suggestions from seasoned peaks riders (its been a long time since i rode round here)

the aim is to meet at 8.30 to 9am and to be on the bikes at 9.15, latest!

    44km
I had been thinking of saying yes....
If it was the slimmed down 15 ish mile route, I may change my mind. My knee starts to pack in not much after that.

I decided on this route as it is the same length as w2 at Afan and i found that to be within my capabilities a few months ago. This is supposed to be a large portion of the day and not just a morning ride out as i am not in the area very often and want to make the most of it.

Hope you didn't misunderstand, I wasn't complaining, just above my knee limits for now unfortunately.
Hope you have a good ride, looks like a cracking route :D
