There are 5 1 stone gaps in this poll and I fall into one of them.

I'm not a fat bastard because a) I'm not fat and b) my parents were married at the time of my birth.

Depends on how tall you are of course. If you are 5ft then10-11 stone is obese, for a 6 footer no problem.

BMI is the best (although not ideal) way of measuring obesity.

6ft 3 and between 14-15 stone (varies alot, depending on race / training volume), but I am fairly "built" and will never be a lithe racing snake unless I starve myself.

On the BMI scale, I am overweight, but screw that, I am at a level were I can perform well enough, sure I could afford to lose a stone or two, but I am not going to bust a gut to do so.

Not many years ago I was properly obese, 24 stone with a BMI of 42

Don't you snap in half in a stiff breeze?

I'm the same height and fluctuate between 14-15 stone. I don't believe it's possible to be 6'5" and obese! :D

I find these reports fascinating, and at the same time a bit of a joke (BMI anyone?).

On a recent trip to a specialist ENT hospital to accompany a friend with ear problems I was studying a BMI index chart on the wall. I weigh 12.5 stone (80 kgs) and am 5' 10" and according to the chart I am overweight, and only a few kilos off obese!! I had to laugh as I have a nuturally muscular build and to all intents and purposes am a normal size. However, this BMI index doesn't take into account muscle mass (which is heavier than fat), or other factors like ethinc origin which can again be important.

My point is, if this report is making calculations based on the BMI index - which it definitely will be - then forget 2030, 89% of the country is 'overweight/obese' right now.

Then again, I have to admit if you are 5' 10" and are say 20+ stone then you are indeed a said fat bar steward - unless of course your name is Dr Bruce Banner and someone has just made you angry.

Are you suggesting that the definition of obese be changed so that someone can be even fatter before they're considered obese? Bizarre.

Screw the poll - I just love how all these news stories have surreptitiously taken photos of really fat people without their heads and/or faces!!

My weight is absolutely perfect, but unfortunately according to BMI I'm 4 inches too short. I'm working on height gain.

You'd expect cycling forum regulars to be generally slimmer, but this doesn't appear to be the case.

    5ft 6" and 164lbs, 11st 10lb

I used to be 13st when playing rugby!

I fall into an ideal weight for my height, 10st something thing is though i would look malnourished if i got down to that weight plus i would not want to drop that low anyway.

I'm 5'7" & fall into the non-existent 11-12 stone group... probably nearer to 11 than 12 so i'm probably slightly overweight according to the BMI shite (just checked - yep, i'm officially overweight with a BMI of 25.8!) To make it to officially obese status i'd have to increase the Greggs intake until I hit 13.8 stone - heaviest i've been is around 12, so almost another 2 stone on top of that is a lot of baked pastry goods to shift. And eye watering flatulence.

    A good mantra is

    1) sweat three times a week

    2) if it comes from a factory, don't eat it

    3) drink wine instead of beer

Hard to follow in practice though

However if you eat lots of factory food and drink only beer you get to sweat three times a day

I'm 11-12, that does not appear to be on the poll, so I can't vote.

    6'1 and 82Kg (I know, mixing measurements)

I would describe myself as similar build to Bradley, but clearly not doing quite so much as him on the bike, hence a few more kilo's. I'm now 40 and far from spreading but a step up from the mid 60Kgs I was until early 30's. Was actively trying and failing to put on weight in those days.

Aim to get sub 80Kg but wouldn't want to go below 75 again.

I know plenty of people same height as me who must be classed as obese but they are simply well built guys.

5'8" and 11st 6. So borderline overweight but what does that mean? My body fat has been measured at 13% and I wear 30" waist trousers!

Did anyone see the Horizon programmme on health outcomes and foetal development and birthweight. Changes the whole game. Two guys on there with same height, same weight and same BMI. One was body fat 12% and the other 21% and a large part of the point of the programme was that the high body fat guy was from an Indian population sub group with high levels of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancers and they tend to have low birthweights.

So if you were fat baby you're laughing.

  • 6ft1.5" (186cm) and 10st10lb (68kg). I think being born one month premature has something to do with my twig-like physique. That, and the fact I probably only eat 2000kcal a day despite riding 140 miles a week.
