Yo
just had a letter of my LBS to say my 2011 tricross has been recalled due to a faulty brake boss (front)
i think the allez is also included in the recall
the letter says the recall is in-accordance with trading standards  an to stop using the bike immediately

The bikes that were listed in the Specialised Boutique Store in Bristiol were mainly Tricrosses, they were the models with 'do not sell' labels stuck on them. An issue with the brake bosses on the carbon forks coming loose, stronger threadlock perhaps?
http://www.londonfieldscycles.co.uk/images/Mail.PDFI've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
I've been lucky enough to do some of the testing of these forks, fitting a jig to the fork and then applying 6.2nm of torque to try and pull the boss out.
We did some 'back of an envelope' calculations and reckon the linear pull is about 2.5kn, therefore 5kn (two bosses) which is akin to decelerating from 30mph to standstill in 2.5 secs, if you weigh about 150kg!
Maybe any budding engineers can correct our workshop calcs?
Forks are getting repaced as quickly as Specialized can source and ship them.FCN16 - 1970 BSA Wayfarer

blimey i didn't think tricross brakes were that good.....mine aint!
I've had to stop from 30+ mph before now an i'm 17.5 stone, the bosses on mine still seem to be in place, granted i didnt stop in 2.5 secs though
i reckon its fat Americans snapping themKeeping it classy since '830 -
took my bike in this morning, LBS said it will be a few weeks at least
i might have to drive for the next few weeks :shock:Keeping it classy since '830 -
Seems pretty harsh you're loosing your bike for a few weeks. Maybe ask for a loan bike in the meantime, or ask them to pay your travel expenses?- Genesis Croix de Fer

Just spoke to Specialized who said they will be giving all customers affected a £10 off voucher (money off specialized gear) as a good will measure.
so no loaner bikes available

Is there a batch of faulty ones just all of them???Not that bad but bad enough for me0

Unclear. The forks aren't serialised, so there is no way of discerning whether the faulty ones are consecutive / same batch. Failure rate under test is pretty high, but the test is pretty forceful, as mentioned above.0 -

all of em
they said they have had 40 in the whole world fail, but woudlnt want to risk that others could fail so have decided to replace all of emKeeping it classy since '830 -
Surprised that Specialized did not email people if they had registered there bike online.
No contact from my LBS but still put on 80miles since the recall was postedNot that bad but bad enough for me0 -

I bought a Sirrus Comp about 2 months ago and had a letter from LBS. Rang them to arrange fork replacement and they said Specialized were also offering a voucher to replace the bike at purchase price +10% with another Specialized model if preferred...hmm..tempting..!0

i think that's is only if Specialized cant replace your forks for what ever reason...Keeping it classy since '830 -
I'm pretty sure it was being offered as a choice instead of fork replacement, presumably if a customer loses faith in keeping the bike maybe..?
I'll speak to them again to confirm and post update.0 -

a friend has been given the same offer via Evans.
The replacement forks on offer do not match the existing ie high gloss and patterned to match the bike, instead they show the cabon fibre lay up and and look a very obvious and poor replacement.
We will both be taking the refund offer0 -
Really...I'm surprised they're not matching the originals, although the replacement you describe sounds like the same as the original on my Sirrus Comp, i.e. carbon overlay/wrap on a matt grey fork...now I am confused...?!0
-
I'm now being told by my retailer, Leisure Lakes, that the replacement bike offer/voucher is no longer an option as apparently Specialized can supply the forks to order sooner than expected. I just need to callback with frame number to get my fork ordered and it will be done as a same day swap out once in stock...but Piquet is correct as they said the replacement forks are all the same stock black colour and not specific to bike colour.0

If thats the case i wont be chasing up the LBS and will be very unhappyNot that bad but bad enough for me0 -
Mate of mine had his steerer fail (i.e. sheer off from the fork) on a Specialized Sirrus the other week. Smashed his teeth to smithereens.
The ops director was on to him pretty quickly to say the compensation guy would be in touch shortly.
I'd take it into the shop quick-smart if I had one of those bikes mentioned.0 -
Right just heard it from the 'horses mouth' after ringing Specialized UK themselves (0208 3913502) that you only get a voucher for replacement bike if they can't provide replacement forks within a 'reasonable' time. They have no problems with stocks at the moment so no vouchers are currently being issued. However, as mentioned before you will get a £10 voucher for 'inconvenience' when your fork is replaced...whoppee do..!
As far as the replacement forks go you get either a gloss black or satin black finish depending on your bike model, both with the carbon-effect wrap.0 -

The guy I spoke to at Specialized might have been referring only to the Sirrus fork options...not sure...as you say lets see what we get.0

my view on this is very simple, i bought a "designer" bike with matching frame and fork. If they are now telling me the forks they fitted to my bike less than a year ago are unsafe, i want either a like for like replacement or a cash refund.
Earlier this year i got a £1499 extended warranty cash payout on a PC i paid £999 for 3 years earlier, as the higher price was the current price on the nearest comparable model in the same manufacturer's range0 -
Let us know how you get on then Piquet.
Mine's booked in for replacement in a few weeks but I will be asking to see the new fork before they swap it out. I also don't want to be left with a mis-matched 'ugly' bike as its smart looks was one of the reasons I went for the Sirrus in the first place.0
