Not knowing wasn't the issue at all. It was the arsey response that annoyed people (which TheBigBee has since edited)

For the OP - I only use tubs on my TT bike so don't generally bother with carrying a spare, but on the odd occasions I have I've used a back pocket. It's a bit of a stretch and but you don't need tyre levers or a tube. I wouldn't rely on the foam/slime stuff - guy out on a ride with us had to abandon a ride after the canister did nothing but blast his back wheel with foam!

Whoa that's a big edit he has done to his first post, that's not backtracking that's travelling back in time to the stone age.
  • BigBee must have fired up the DeLorean to edit that one. He had over 200 posts before shooting first and asking questions later on this thread, yet he had never come across tubs before!?

Still, it's all rather amusing from where I'm sat.

Who would have thought a simple tyre question could turn into the funniest thing in BR history? Fabulous stuff,
  • Dear Everyone,

Thank you for entertaining me over the last couple of days. I commend you.

    Keep it up,

shame several of us quoted his original rant when replying  - if he asks (really) nicely, perhaps we'd all consider editing our posts as well - that way he'd look like a more reasonable poster and this could go back to being the friendly board that it normally is :)

    WTF are tubs?

    Did you mean tubes?

Was it that hard to type that extra letter or is this a common name for tubes?

If so - is it really that hard to think of where you could carry them?

Hmm - backpack, saddlebag, frame bag, bottle bag.

shoot - I could have never thought of where I could possibly carry a tub!

    Sorry - tube..

Ohh you mean this post, his original post, ahhh right not the tame one that exists now that makes it look like everyone else is being petty
  • Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's this post;

This is not the funniest thing in BR history. Even in my time, people have made way bigger d@cks of themselves than this.

    Though not many.

Steelem for instance for those who've been around long enough to remember.

ive seen a few people here carryign their spare in a second waterbottle. Ok you only have one for water but if you get a wide topped bottle you shoudl be able to get one in there (obviously with the top left off) looks a bit shyte in my opinion and scruffy but then most things here in spain seem that way.

if there is any confusion over what I mean by a "bottle" that is the plastic thing in the cage that you fill with liquid to drink whilst riding. After all this is the beginners forum so just covering all bases

If I haven't hacked everyone off too much with my last post can someone please explain how a tub is fitted. I know it involves glue or double-sided tape but that's all. What do you do on the road if you need to replace? Isn't it a tad messy with grit and stuff getting in the glue? And what about when it's raining, doesn't that wreck the glue?

You haven't hacked anyone off because you haven't been agressive in your post, that's the problem with bigbee and instead of bowing out gracefully to let thins simmer down he carries on.

Now to your question. The decision to use glue or tape to hold on your tub is governed by what you are intending to do with the tyre afterwards to a great degree. If TTing then tape is pretty good and less messy. Road racers and particulary crit riders will go for glue as it is supposed to be more secure(although I have raced crits on a taped tyre and have still lived to tell the tale)
If you puncture you have a couple of choices, rip the tyre off and put a spare that's carried under your seat on  Usually enough residue glue to get you back safe enough( and I have found with tape for there to be enough stickiness left as well. OR you can use a sealant like pitstop to seal the punture Or you can phone your misses to come and get you(costs you the price of a meal out I find)
Rain has no effect on glue/tape but it will melt your carbon fibre frame :D
Plenty of vids on YouTube showing the actual process of mounting the tub, they do make it look easy and it is if you take your time and don't rush.

If so - are you really that worried about how you smell?

Hmm - deodorant, you fetid bastard.

shoot - I could have never thought of (sic) how I could possibly cure body odour without a tub!

    Sorry - bath tub..

  • i pre-fill my tubs with sealant (caffe latex), its only let me down once and that was on a previously repaired puncture...every other (small) punture i've had it has self sealed during the ride however i still carry a spare under the saddle just in case

'tis a goodun. Check the crudcatcher section in the mountain bike forum and see the thread on motorised bicycles though. Classic.

I don't think it was lack of knowledge about tubs, more the abusive response to the OP's question that got everyone riled......and then Thebigbee just kept digging a bigger and bigger hole.

Funny thing is most road BEGINNERS don't use your outdated old fashion SPECIALIST tubes or tyres - maybe you could post in the relevant board that does cater for your weird tastes?

Most of these riders are using tubs:

    tourdefrance.jpg

As for what section to put it in....well there isn't a section called 'Experienced rider chat' or anything, so this does get used for general chat rather than just beginners topics

Fine - they all look like beginners don't they?

Maybe if it had been posted in the correct thread - the PRO RACE thread - then none of this shite would have happened.

I have apologised for not being knowlegeable.

The OP should have posted in the correct thread. This isn't a beginners question IMO.

Feel free to flame me down - as you have already. Continue the abuse - it amuses me. Please amuse me some more...

    hahahahhah

In what possible way would pro race be the correct thread for an amateur to post a query about storing a tub? Workshop or beginners are the best options and beginners gets more views. If you didn't know what tubs are then you should have just kept quiet but instead opted for the sarcastic approach and got shot down in flames. The thing about a beginners section is it needs replies from experienced riders and so the OP got a sensible answer in the very first reply - therefore it was a good place to post. Had you just asked what a tub is you would have learned something and not ended up with egg all over your face.

    This. Is. Brilliant.

Anyway, i carry mine, folded up in a water bottle with the top cut off. It can also fit other small tools in (MrBigBee may even fit in!)

A few months back i posted a question under beginners asking the same question. I stated i was not a beginner to cycling but i was a beginner to 'tubs'......

Well this seems like a totally innocuous post. Why has everyone got the hump with TBB? Seems completely out of proportion IMO...
