Thebigbee, you dropped a bollock and you're digging yourself deeper. But, I agree, I find it odd that tubs are being discussed in the 'beginner' section of the site. Anyone that has graduated to tubs has surely already got a clue as to where he might store a spare

I like the way Big bee has been accused of being a moron, with ironically bad english. It should be You're as in you are  .

    I bet Crockett knows.

What is the acronym for spluttering out loud???

Because that's what I just did!

As for the rest of the thread, descended quickly didn't it.

I used to tie my tubs to the seat rails with string. I now have the super extra large topeak aero wedge bag which can accomodate two tubs or the kitchen sink but not both simultaneously.

Personally I don't get on with tubs. Owing to the propensity for punctures to happen in batches, it means every few months you spend an absolute fortune on tyres in a very short period.

The mrs wants to go out. I can't possibly go out whilst this continues to evolve.

    Dodgy, whoosh indeed.

Enough said really. Is it that hard to work out where to store your "tubs" or are you that much of a moron that you need approbation?

OP - seems that YOU are the moron. Is it that hard to work out where to carry your tubs that you need to make a thread about it?

Seems to be a backpack, saddle bag or something else that any person with half a brain would carry a spare tube in...

    Doh...

Instead of attacking well meaning members on this forum why don't you spend 5 mins researching Tubs. It is a perfectly valid question to ask where to store them, If you knew what they were you'd know that they aren't that small and so not obvious re. storage. Most raodies don't use a rucksack for obvious reasons(do I need to explain that one to you?) and saddle packs are generally too small to carry them.

To the OP what we used to do when I was a lad was to use a strap to bundle them up and then we stuffed then under the seat on top of the rails. You might be able to do this then still fit a saddle pack underneath.

    Agreed

Bigbee just be quiet and this thread will be forgotten about by Monday. Just prepare yourself for tub banter in the future.

well this has been an "interesting" thread

At the risk of ridicule myself, I didn't know what "tubs" were as I have only been road cycling for around a year.

But... I would have used that little thing called Google, or if that didn't help I would have asked nicely on here, not try and be cocky and arrogant.

The people on here have been very helpful and friendly to me (including the OP) and will no doubt provide you with helpful infomation.

Maybe show some respect and you'll get some back.

I don't think it was lack of knowledge about tubs, more the abusive response to the OP's question that got everyone riled......and then Thebigbee just kept digging a bigger and bigger hole.

Funny thing is most road BEGINNERS don't use your outdated old fashion SPECIALIST tubes or tyres - maybe you could post in the relevant board that does cater for your weird tastes?

Most of these riders are using tubs:

As for what section to put it in....well there isn't a section called 'Experienced rider chat' or anything, so this does get used for general chat rather than just beginners topics

These lads know exactly where to carry a spare tub - glued onto the rim of a replacement wheel in the team car.

    Simple.

Fine - they all look like beginners don't they?

Maybe if it had been posted in the correct thread - the PRO RACE thread - then none of this shite would have happened.

I have apologised for not being knowlegeable.

The OP should have posted in the correct thread. This isn't a beginners question IMO.

Feel free to flame me down - as you have already. Continue the abuse - it amuses me. Please amuse me some more...

    Pretty insecure post?
Tubular tyres are also used by beginners, and the 'Pro Race' mainly talks about Pro Races not common issues. I posted it here as the crowd are so friendly and helpful.
You've been 'flamed down' because you've been an rude idiot, stop posting and give up.

So instead of looking up what tub meant and going ahhhhhhh thats what it means, you posted your original post trying to sound clever and now you are saying everyone is attacking you when it was you who was agressive at the start and got it completely wrong as well.

It can only go down hill from here although how much further is hard to judge as it's already below sea level at the moment.

This part of the forum is always used for general road chat as there isn't one labelled as that, that's easy to see from the threads in here.

Well, this has been an interesting thread. I must say though that NOT knowing where to carry one doesn't put you in a good light. Those 3 back pockets are there for a reason. What did you think they were for?

I find it highly likely that a road beginner may not know the best place to store a tub....

I reckon many have now given up on this thread (including me :)) but I have now successfully strapped my spare under my seat, its subtle if I say so myself ;), anyway cheers guys.
  • I don't find it hard to beleive that a beginner wouldn't know what 'tubs' are, and might reasonably assume that someone had mis-typed 'tubes'.

I've been going in bike shops for over 20 years and I've been trying to think of a time when I've seen a bike for sale from a mainstream manufacturer that had tubs specced, but I can't. Perhaps I just don't go in the right shops, or maybe my attention is always elsewhere. My local bike shop is a branch of EBC, so I just checked their website. They have a section in tyres and tubes for 'tubulars', I clicked on it, result, '0 products'. I know EBC isn't exactly a shop aimed specifically at road racers but to have '0 products' suggests tubulars are somewhat uncommon.

Now flame me, I'm waiting. :D
  • If I haven't hacked everyone off too much with my last post can someone please explain how a tub is fitted. I know it involves glue or double-sided tape but that's all. What do you do on the road if you need to replace? Isn't it a tad messy with grit and stuff getting in the glue? And what about when it's raining, doesn't that wreck the glue?

I remember when I was new to cycling I saw the word tubs being used in a thread without knowing what it meant, so I googled it and learnt something rather than posting an arsey response. Each to their own thebigbee.
  • i'm going to stick my hand up and say i didn't know what tubs were, although it couldn't be to many things and i did work it out,,

now i've admitted to that, i'll slip away quietly
put the fun between your legs
  • Another newbie here. I had no idea what tubs were, and thought maybe it was short for tubes as well - although seemed odd to save one letter!

But the point is, the lack of knowledge of what tubs were is not the issue; the way the post was made is the problem.

@ thebigbee - i think all that is needed is a slice of humble pie that your original post was harsher than it should have been.

@ all - as a newbie at least i have learnt something, and i am unlikely to forget now ;-)

Exactly the abuse of Mr BigBee started not because of his lack of knowledge, but because he orignal made an inappropriate stupid/rude post.
(He realised his ignorance and has started editing his previous posts)
