PRODUCT Genesis Core 50 (2011)

About the bike
‘Dead-centre, always on target’, was what we said about 2010’s Core bikes. ‘What Mountain Bike’ magazine agreed – the Core 50 won their 13-bike hard tail group-test with its unbeatable combination of technical trail handling ability and impressive turn of speed. In 2011 it goes a step further -

Upgrades over the Core 40 include a Shimano Dynasys 10-speed SLX drivetrain - a closer-spaced range of gears with optimised ratios. DT rims keep the wheel weight low and the MotionControl Recon Gold RL fork easily handles the impacts that this frame and fork combination will encourage.

Looks good, I like the understated nature - basic silver.
Now get those reflectors off the wheels, some decent pedals and off you go.

No idea lol, they must have ran out of boxes. I was worried when I first saw it and had the driver wait while i looked in it. Thankfully it was the right bike lol

Second set of pedals I suppose were for those that like flats. They were free and I already bought some new Wellgo MG1 Mag / Alloy Flat MTB Pedals in Freeride Grey to fit, Just waiting for them hence why there are no pedals on the bike atm.

    Thanks for your comments :)

Genesis bikes used to make frames for Ridgeback. Or vice-versa I can't remember :?

Either way, they're damn good frames, light and strong. My 2009 Core 40 (same frame as 50 - and with mixture of XT and SLX (spec has changed somewhat)) is all sorts of weird shapes with massive welds and gussets at the headtube tapering down and across quite a bit to the seat tube.

Enjoy the new ride, I love the polished finish!

Yes I did, was about to buy the Boardman pro but then some one recommended i look at genesis, one which wasn't suggested before, then saw that for 1050... couldn't resist, especially after reading the review about it and people saying it was a great bike. It is a lot of money but I wont have to upgrade for a long time and it will do pretty much anything I throw at it as I grow as a rider, getting more confident ad stronger as I go.

I don't get why they use brown either, I'm not a fan of that. I may be able to find new stickers to put on it and I can pull the brown ones off.

What did you end up with? the 2007 kraken?

Nice bike! I like the Core range, I was very tempted by one a few weeks ago, it was only the lure of the big wheels that dragged me away.

Thanks guys, can't wait to fit my new bits to it and get it dirty! Waiting for my new pedals, bottle/holder, crud catcher. Then I can check pressures when my pump gets here too.

What sort of pressure am I looking at with the folks? I'm not to sure... I need to read the manual lol.

yeah i ended up with the kraken because i had around 350 saved up for a bike (alot of money when ya 16) and i had a school trip coming up to italy so my brother said i could have his bike and use the money for a school trip ( he only brought it to keep fit in the army ) but im slowly upgrading it starting with some new forks at the end of the month :D anyway it would look better with some black or grey stickers :) hope you foot heals quick

Cheers me too, dam things a pain! (my foot)

I agree... I'm going to try and swap them out for some sold black or grey stickers.

That's nice of your brother... just make sure you hide it when he comes home for leave ;)

I'm sure it will say in the manual, there's online guides too to help you set the sag etc.

On my RST's for 90kg they recommend 100psi.

    About 90 psi for me

    Recon Solo Air
    160-180 lb (73-81 kg) = 85-100 psi

    I weigh 75 kg

I am keeping the bell on for the mean time, they're very useful but will keep an eye out for a better looking one lol.

Your getting a 50 too, cool? What made you buy one you have a Canyon lol?

A few reasons, don't always ride stuff that warrants a full sus, wanted a back up bike if something wanted sorting out on the Canyon, wanted a bike to ride in the winter that had less to get worn out or knackered. Ordered a Canyon hardtail for the GF for the same reasons, they don't do one with a 120mm fork though so wasn't an option for me.

The offer at Irvine was too good to miss, £360 off!!

It was on my very short list and the price drop clinched it. The spec' looks ok, you get a bit spoiled with the Canyon's.

Any one know where I can get some new stickers for my frame? The brown are doing my head in... what were they thinking lol?

What colour do you think? Green, black... any suggestions welcome? I'm going to design something in photoshop and get it made.

EDIT: This looks like a good site... does anyone know any better?

Genesis were the premium side of Ridgeback, then the Ridgeback got dropped from the name. Would assume they are still part of the same company
