Apparently they've solved Andy's problem, he's going to do a bike change before the descent today

+1 his tactical options are limited too. will have to attack on Pramartino in the hope he can gap the field ahead of the descent. My guess is Bertie will go hard again to try and drop Cadel. could be explosive :)

I remember when i thought this was a good idea... It just means wasting energy and a greater audience for your terrible descending.

Contador went for it on such an easy climb because it was such a tough stage. The break only got away 2/3rds of the way into the stage. That's why there was a selection. The peloton was flat out for a good 100-120km before.

    I didn't realise you could form a sentence without a subject. [/pedant]

    *shrugs*

I'm writing colloquially, as if it was speech.

I would say "didn't see that one coming", and the 'I' would be presumed.

Gap, in either context, is not a verb.

OK, as long as everyone agrees never to use "podium" as a verb, we'll call it quits.

Would 'medal' be a suitable alternative verb? As in "I hope to medal in the 400m"

    That's worse. Along with "I PB'ed".

It all started around the same time people started putting Team in front of everything.

    No.

You can get onto the podium, or finish in the podium places, or forget podium all together and say you want a top three place etc.

Similarly you can make a gap, bridge a gap etc.

    Grr

Until the TdF cameraman focuses on some birds of prey there's nothing else to talk about.

Interesting attack from De Weert... he could leapfrog Uran and may be even Danielson if he keeps it going...
