You couldn't fail to notice but I had the opposite reaction, it certainly didn't bring a grin to my face.0 -

No, he's doing it because he's MINUTES down on Evans.0 -

I have to say that I watched in absolute awe at these guys descending skills (maybe not so much that guys from saur-sojasun) and bravery on that last descent. I was on the edge of my seat for the last 20 minutes or so and I was a bit disapointed that Contador and Sanchez were caught before the line after their daredevil antics.
Although it made for great television I bet the organisers are breathing a sigh of relief tonight that it wasn't raining or that there were any serious accidents. A couple of the riders will also be extremely relieved that someone left their gate open today, that was quite a good bunny hop by TV.0 -
Just seen big Schleck interview... his turn to moan today, clearly."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

I'd love to replay that to him if one of them beats TV overall by the amount he lost today.
Reasonable stage I thought. I expect there will be big gaps tomorrow. Probably not True Champion [tm] style but slipping off the lead group one by one.
Booked my whole afternoon to polish a slide deck. And no, that's not prison talk, so should be able to watch. Result.Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -
It's only 8 kms from the turn off the Lauteret to the Galibier summit, and there's little point attacking any earlier as the gradient isn't severe enough so I doubt we'll see big time gaps tomorrow, unless someone decides to ratchet up the pace on the Izoard.0

To be fair to Hivert, he was trying to win the stage, so knew he had to take risks to pull back EBH.
I think he deserves respect for having a go.0 -
Didn't think I'd find myself warming to Contador, but I just can't help it. He seems to be the polar opposite of the Schleck's at the moment.
The Schleck's appear to be acting like they are owed something by the tour - with all this moaning about the descents.
Heat and getting out of the kitchen maybe Andy & Frank...?Mens agitat molem0 -
It certainly would have been an interesting descent in the rain!Remember that you are an Englishman and thus have won first prize in the lottery of life.0

mz__jo wrote:If going faster than everyone else in the last 150m was so easy they would all be at it (including EBH, its what he's supposed to be in the team for).
And by the same token - if breakaway wins were so easy, everyone would be doing them also?
There are many sprinters that can win, not nearly as many all-rounders (like EBH) that can do well in both the sprints and in breaks.
Cav wins races by inches. EBH wins them from a distance (sometimes). I still think a win like today is more impressive than any sprint Cav does.0 -
Andy's cracked the TT, they've designed a TT helmet that's aero when you're looking over your shoulder !.. who said that, internet forum people ?0

I meant that a bit tongue in cheek, of course he gets my respect, anyone who can climb and descend like those guys does. He just seemed a little bit less in control than most of the other riders0 -
Just as a small aside, Thomas Voeckler today equalled the number of yellow jerseys of Fausto Coppi, and moved ahead of Jan Ullrich.0

Is there a list somewhere? I'd like to see that. I love a list.Twitter: @RichN950 -

Anyone else feel that EBH is winning despite Sky's genius, rather than because of it. HIs style is based on guts, brains and instinct rather than hokum marginal gains and cagey riding.
Wiggins exiting the tour might have been a huge boon to the team after all as they now have two stage wins and seen a massive step forward from EBH, who is the real star in the making in this team.
Dunno if he'll stick around if Cavendish rolls into town though. It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0 -

Gotta say with all due respect I do disagree. I think the marginal gains thing has been tempered with a focus on getting the right team atmosphere and I really do think riders such as G and EBH are coming on due to having a good team infrastructure behind them. I know someone who works for them and I know how good the team spirit is and how they focus on looking after riders and the staff as much as possible. If wiggo had been there then I think EBH and G would have been just as prominant in support (with Uran and Xandio), perhaps minus the stage wins but maybe quite a high placed GC rider. They were just as impressive in the dauphine in pulling brad up the climbs. I really do think we are seeing a different sky this season and they have some great riders in the setup.
I think EBH is a long term prospect at sky and this whole vibe of cav being a negative I think in time will be proven to be false.0 -

I have to disagree. The whole team rode that final climb 3 times in training as well as watching vids. Yes EBH still had to execute but the team had given him all the info he needrd0 -

Columbia splits. Griepel splits. HTC getting ready to split. Highroad can't find a sponsor, and rumors are that it might fold up...Cavendishy being a negative? I'd say its been proven true.0 -

Wow. I'd never heard of Rene Vietto but his Wiki entry is fascinating. Will need to find out more. Is he covered in any detail in any of the Tour histories?0 -

So let me get this straight, the sponsors have quit mainly because of the rider who has given them the publicity of 19 stage wins in the Tour alone not to mention a Vuelta points jersey and stage wins, Giro stage wins and a win in one of the monuments. They would have been far better served if they had got rid of Cav and milked the success of Greipel in the massive races such as the Tour Down Under. What on earth are Sky thinking? Hopefully they haven't put pen to paper and can rectify this gross error by signing Greipel instead0 -
