Going faster - how?

Try riding with others that are faster than yourselves if possible.
If I ride alone, I will just sit in my comfort zone and find it hard to push myself for long periods. However, I went out for a ride yesterday with a friend who's slightly fitter and faster than me, and gave me a real workout as was trying to keep up all the time without loosing face (think he was too slightly so benefited us both).
I usually find my next couple of solo rides are faster as I've realised that I CAN go faster if I try.0 -

Fair enough. As an accountant, I've written a blog about cancer treatment if anyone is interested.0 -

He's written a post for beginners, he hardly needs to be Dave Brailsford to pass on a bit of advice0 -

It is actually pretty damned important to start as you mean to go on.... so whether it is for beginners or not... having some idea of training science is fairly crucial but that is not to stop him regurgitating some internet stuff if the guys wants to.
On the web everyone is an expert.
His blog piccy however does not inspire much confidence.0 -

Ah yes, the internet - where one mans ignorance is the equal of another's knowledge. I might have a tiny little bit more confidence if could could spell "beginners" correctly - but hey, I'm not Dave Brailsford and I have no qualifications, and I can tell you that the BEST way to train, for anything cycling related, is to w4nk into a pot noodle twice a day.0 -
Also, from the little I know about training (reading books by people with actual qualifications) I can tell you that his post is bolleaux. This would appear to be an anaerobic capacity session which, as well as being beyond most beginners to perform effectively - they will either kill themselves on the first interval and the rest won't be of sufficient quality, or they just won't be able to push themselves deep into the pain cave where the benefits of this workout lie. Moreover, it will do little to improve FTP - which is of course the gold standard for cycling fitness and what correlates most strongly be being "faster" in everyday parlance.
Take THAT, internet idiots.0
