All over until June 6th I believe!

At least we might get some breaks staying away in the last week.

the contenders for second place must be crushed. It looks like the only thing that could stop Contador this year is a crash, and that is not likely at this point because Cavy has already quit. Cheers Contador

I love the Giro, eery year i think its great, somehow and this is odd givent he size of it it has a grass roots feel to it, it feels real wheras the Tour seems (for me at least) a little sureal.

Great rides from Nibali, Scarponi, Little Jose and Old Man Garzelli and Young Man Kruiswijk.

Love him or loathe him, that was an awesome performance by Contador.

And pretty embarrassing for everyone else. Or at least the "GC contenders".

To me, Contador's efforts in the Giro go a long way to show the difference between genuine TdF contenders and Giro contenders.

Anyone think Basso would have come close had he ridden this one?

I for one hope Bertie is cleared to ride the TdF with him in this form it should be a really good battle with him, Basso, the Schlecks and Wiggins.. ;)

    Dude you keep saying this.

Please can you explain to me who would be killing Nibs and Scarponi etc? Schleck maybe but he gets whacked by old guys in Cali. Basso? Contador will take him out. Evans? Good TT, battler, but not the best. Nibali has won a Vuelta (Im guessing though that you think that was easy?)

    priceless

I loved the Pinotti quote about him in pro-cycling

"You can’t say what he said. I don’t know what he told the investigators – he must have said something if they reduced his ban – but compare Di Luca and Tom Zirbel. Zirbel was banned for two years by USADA having tested positive for DHEA. He didn’t know how it got into his body and he definitely didn’t take it intentionally. Nonetheless, he admitted that what enters an athlete’s body was his responsibility and he wasn’t able to prove that it was contamination, perhaps because he didn’t have the money and the lawyers. Anyway, he couldn’t prove it and he got banned for two years. There was another case - Zirbel heard about it - of an athlete who did manage to prove that he’d taken a contaminated supplement and the company got sued – but the athlete still only got a three-month reduction to his ban. Then along comes Di Luca, who’s already been charged twice - once for consulting a doctor who’s banned from cycling for life and now for this. Di Luca tests positive, admits he did it and then he provides the investigators with information, which he can do because he’s an expert in the field, and they give him a nine-month reduction. Then what? He throws his hands up in the air and says, “I didn’t name any names. I didn’t spit in the soup. I just explained my doping methods.” So as an expert in the field, he’s told the investigators how you go about doping. At this point Zirbel says, “Ah, it’s a shame that I’m not an expert in doping. I should have pretended to be one then I’d be able to start racing again next year. Because I’m an idiot, though, and I let this substance get into my system without knowing how, I’ve got two years and I’m stuck with it.”

Look, Contador would be anyone, but that's the point.

Basso would beat Nibs and Scarponi, Schleck would if he wanted to, no problem. Evans, nowhere near the top step of the Giro or the TdF. Nibs would be top 10 in the Tour, top 5 if he has a good one.

The standard Giro GC cotenders are just not anywhere near the TdF level.

Please see last 4 years GC.

You mention Schleck and Basso. Ok fine, please tell me who is hands down beating Nibs and Scarponi?

I would say even that Nibs is better suited to the Tour as dont think he is the best on the steepest grades (which Andy, Alberto and Ivan are)

You are undermining wrongly the calibre of riders.

I wouldn't be so quick to write off Cuddles. Remember, he came within a minute of Bertie when he and the chicken danced their merry juiced up dance through the Alps.

He was never going to win a Giro as hilly as '10 but a good team around him, some quiet preparation and I can see him matching Basso in '11 TdF.

Bertie's supremacy or otherwise is irrelevant; see you in '13 pistolero. No doubt with Valv.piti as wingman.

Trouble is riders like Evans get paid to finish top 5 in the Tour not fight for the win at the Giro ...

I think Cuddles would be in the same spot as Scarponi/Nibs and it would be a great fight for the win ... Sadly Bertie won't take his (ahem) medicine ... plus everyone (including Basso) is hoping no AC at the Tour to give them a chance of the win ...

If AC does take the ban then Andy Schleck won't win the tour ... Too many others with a chance of the win who have been there when it mattered before ... He'll make a silly mistake again ...

Saluting the probably-clean Tondo who struggled for years against rampant doping on the Iberian peninsula?

Can't help feeling a tad queasy if so.
