Dt swiss forks have the brace on the rear of the legs.

Why is it on the back? Is it to counter act braking forces?

Back in the late 80s their were a few mountain bikers who put their suspension forks on back to front to improve braking and cut down the flex in the forks under braking and added the braces to stop the legs of the forks from twisting and it is believed by some that having the brace at the back of the forks does work better regarding the twisting of the fork legs .
