How do you find shifting between the 40t chainring and the 26t, as i run 42/27 on my anthem and looked at dropping to a 40t main ring, but it looks like the mech wont come down low enough for it to work.

be interesting to hear your thoughts.

Mine shifts fine, not had any issues at all. If you want i will get you a picture of where the mech sits?

Want to try and drop around another pound off the build over the next month or so but its probably going to be pretty tough!

So far i have the following 2 bits on order:
    Ritchey WCS foam drips,
Shimano XTR ispec direct shifter mounts.

I want a new stem and might go for some RS SID World cup forks.

Whats the diff. in current spec to your old one? seeing as that was about 1 lb+ lighter if i remember correct...ie..wheres the extra weight??

Really not sure. Probably a little in the wheels as the old one was on 24 hole pro 3 straight pull hubs and 355 rims (24 spoke not 32) and a bit in the fork as the old one had a SID Team fork. IIRC the fox is a little heavier than the RS fork. Other than that the old one was on Sram not Shimano.
  • I wish I had that much cash to spend on a bike!

mmmmm..didn't think it would of made that much of a difference..I know the frame is slightly heavier..around 90g (tapered headtube/press fit bb) but wouldn't of said the wheels/forks would of made too much of a difference...not 1lb+ anyways.
  • Just sat here and worked it out LOL

Its about 0.76lbs the new one gives away to the old one on fork, wheels and pedals.
  • Well the fox front forks can now be found in the for sale section. Going for some SID World Cups.

How did you manage to kill the old crest rim?

Was thinking of getting a wheelset with the crests, but if youve done that to them on a fairly xc oriented bike, I dont think they'll last 5 mins on my 140mm travel ht!
  • i have crests on hope pro 2's and just got back from riding them in wales and there fine so dont be put off as there great rims :D

the money you have spent is mental  is this now your 3rd set of brakes? dont get the weight though my friend has an x2 with a only few upgrades and weighs the same and my titus weighs 23.5 and i have rebas and slx  just proves throwing money at a bike is not always the way to do it

I run Crests on my 140mm AM bike and they have been fine. I would buy them again and again! The problem was i got a flat and before I realised i hit a huge drainage ditch at speed and that broke the rim good and proper. Still a new one is been built up as i type this.

It came with the XT one and i have had them before and hated the feel of the levers so they were sold while still new, i bought some formulas as i like them on my Santa Cruz but unfortunately they just did not work with the shimano shifters and it all just felt wrong (my SC is on Sram XX and formula matchmaker clamps).

What upgrades if your mates bike running? I am sure of the accuracy of my scales as the X! weighed almost bang on WMB's figure when the bike was new.
  • he got a new bar and stem, tubeless kit and also set it up 1x9! so maybe £200 ish spent and the scales he used were accurate as we did about 10 bikes from our team which had been done on other scales as well and all matched up about right

personally i would keep your fox forks over sids, i know a few people who run them and say there too weak and have been known to warp! your bike is at a decent weight anyway loseing 1lb and spending loads of money is not gonna make you faster but each to there own

anyway its a lovely looking bike mate :)
  • See where i live single ring up front is just not a option. 2x10 is where its at. The new 2011 World Cup sids look great with the 15mm maxle and the teams i had on my old anthem were great as well. Guess it depends what you use the bike for.

Anyhow the rear wheel is all sorted now and i am going to fit the yellow tape later and see if i wrecked the tyre.
  • yer everyone has a different opinion which is good i think :)

as for single ring i run a 36t and a 32-11 and have never found a place i cant ride so far and its such a cheap way to lose weight of your bike, just got back from wales this week and made it up all the hills fine

i would like to get mine down to 22lb but for what it would cost its just not worth it

hopefully the tyre will be fine, i love my crest/hope set up i think for the money its hard to find a better pair

you'll be fine with crest's as rick said hes smashed his with a flat, would have done alot of damage to any rim, my crests are still straight and true on my HD, and they really have been trashed, im running just 24psi in the front atm and 28 in the back and no problems whatsoever :D

Wow i am running 30psi in mine at least. Going to go up to 35/40 in the rear i think now on a 2.1 nobby nic.

yep, 2.25 non snakeskin nobby nics, yet to flat from pinches, even in the peaks t'other week, and im hardly a smooth or slow paced rider  only problem i had, well hardly a problem, but i managed to wedge a load of muck between the rim and the bead when the tyre popped off the rim in a small section on a hard corner, but other than that faultless and they handle drops and rocks with ease

titus weighs 23.5 and i have rebas and slx

That'll be your scales then, I suspect Rick's bike would come out rather lighter using those! Saying that, Anthems do seem disappointingly heavy, several friends have got some Advanced SL1s or sommat, and they're all c24lbs with various upgrades.

They do look good, I really like what they've done on the colour co-ordination, just right. Unlike Spesh who manage to make it look cheap. The 2010 one with the blue Crossmax looked awesome!

FWIW, I run 25-30 in my Crests and my Podiums with 2.1" Schwalbes. Dinged a ring when I mistimed a log hop, can't compensate for my ineptitute! Fairly light rider though admittedly.
  • my bike has been on 3 sets of scales so im fairly confident plus there the same sales which a few anthems have been on and im always lighter! tbf i do have some high spec parts as well but i have done some smart buying so my build is under the 2g mark 8)
