All thoughts with Wouter after a horrific crash in the Grio today.

I'm not going to speculate but having seen the footage post crash he'll be lucky to survive.

God bless fella

According to twitter, Italian media are saying he was intubated and taken to the hospital, they also report that he still had a pulse. Let's hope he pulls through.

Shocking stuff. I've not seen anything just reading reports. Cav tweeted that it might be carnage today. But man that is seriosuly heavy.

Poor guy, really feel deeply for his terrible accident.

Was it a high-speed downhill crash? CN said it was on the passo del something.

Very sad, b/c they always say the Giro is a bit dangerous, but the riders are generally so skilled and car avoid parked cars in Parma at 55-60 kph. They amaze me.

Sometimes there are dangers they can't over come. Did it look more like Jens' crash? i.e. a head/facial injury?

No 2 crashes are alike, when the Katusha rider in the break went down y'day it looked so violent yet he bounced up on his feet like a jack-rabbit.

Devastating news if this is true.

  • Seems he hit a pedal on the barrier that caused him to veer into the rockface

I feel the same. I was watching on HD (so was my wife who never watches cycling so you can imagine the reaction there!). Terrible pictures and awful outcome.

    Our sympathy to his family.

Yes, it happened on one of those narrow descents close to the finish that the riders often complain about because of the danger but the fans, Giro organisers and TV cameras love. There was a steel barrier on one side of the road, which one report said was clipped by the rider, and a high stone wall on the other.

The organisers seem to think that even this sort of thing is a good idea.

Just read the comments on the Spoiler thread. Sounds like this is one crash I defo do NOT want to see.

Poor guy & poor family, someone said his wife is expecting.. I hope Leopard look after the family.

Shocking shocking news, eurosport shouldn't have shown him on the deck. Close up face shot - too fuxking far......
