  • Ah right I see, so if you were to put anything lower in now, you'll do some damage! Very cool car btw :D

    OUCH
That's more than all the cars I've had in over ten years added together. I don't know whether to be jealous or sorry for you
more power from engines between 750CC and 1100CC
£87 per month on the BMW warranty has to be the best decision I've ever made ;-) The car is 5 years old and feeling it, but my new car budget has been spent on my second kid (nursery is £1200+ per month for the next 4 years!).

Awesome, very cool car. A guy I worked with had a 2008 Shelby Mustang, sounded like thunder in the car park!

You are absolutely correct, but the one I want, the 1968 GT380 Fastback would set me back double what this cost, plus the cost of finding one in decent nick and shipping it to Germany.
Then doing a complete brake-swap for modern brakes that work, power-steering conversion, air-con (it got to 44C here last Summer and that's just no fun at all with no aircon in the car).

Not damage it - it just wouldn't run properly.

    Old Muscle-cars look great, but they're shi'ite to drive...lol
One of my mates has a '66 GT convertible and it's rubbish...looks superb, but it doesn't corner, doesn't stop and steers like a whale.

If I'm putting my family in any car, it's got to be safe. Power-Steering and decent brakes are a must, as is aircon.

Its got to be about more than looks though, giving it power steering would just be posing. A fake, a shyster. It just wouldn't have that authenticity. It says "look at me in the badass car, except I'm not a real man, so I had to have it tamed"

Time to think again folks as we have been systematically led up the garden path by the folk who really run the Western World, the same people that are behind our current fixation with events in North Africa and the Arabian peninsular. The folk that are still making untold fortunes out of a resource that only has a limited lifespan.

First there was the Stone Age that came to an end.

Second there was the Iron Age that came to an end.

Thirdly there was the Bronze Age that came to an end.

And now you have the Oil Age that?

    Check this out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peak_oil

The two biggest threats to life on this planet as we know it are oil dependency and the way we source and distribute our food. This has been talked about and warned about for decades and now you are beginning to experience the effects of…….

    Being too dependant on Oil.

Well, though late on the OP, I think I beat you all by getting petrol at £1.29 8) Pug 407 gets me 40mpg, averaging 40mph with a range of 550miles. The tank costs just over £80.

Right, back on topic. Ford Mustangs? Not for me - Datsun 240z for aesthetics every time. That's my dream car to restore and keep in the garage for a sunny weekend...

Two years ago I had a new Mustang as a hire car while in the US. It was a V6 basic version, the was the shameful! Looked okay, but was totally gutless, the lightest power steering you could imagine and bounced down the road like it was a pogo stick!

I had one of the new Camero's last year with a V8, that was still pretty slow but nothing like as bad as the basic Mustang. The interior was really plasticy, and a lot of the switches and surfaces looked like they were from on of my company's Astra pool cars (guess it must be the GM connection). Not what you'd expect in a flashy sports car!

That's one way of looking at it - another is that I like the looks but prefer not to die a horrible fiery death plunging down a mountainside when the steering and brakes fail...lol

Due to having a totally screwed shoulder I may have to switch to an automatic because I have trouble changing gear when the box is cold. An automatic!!! I hope driving an auto won't make my willy fall off.

Oh, I thought it might cause more knocking if you used a lower octane fuel, now that you've set it up for higher - Or can the engine still adjust to compensate? Not that I know enough about what I'm on about  Just trying to learn off someone who knows more :D

but surely that car is really more for the kind of people who'd prefer to die in an explody ball of flame, than settle down, and die quietly in old age

I once knew somebody who had a car with 428 torques. It was quite slow though really.

lol...not at the price they command in 'Yoorp'. All the old mustangs I know round here are owned by doctors, dentists, lawyers and real-estate agents in their mid -50's.
68 Mustangs are all but unobtainable over this side of the pond due to the popularity of 'eleanor' clones being built using old 68 fastback shells.
You can still find a few in the US for around $30,000 in VGC or less of you're prepared to do some work on them.

    Personally if I was forced to go retro, it wouldn't be a Mustang but a 1972 Dodge Challenger 440 SR/T - a la Kowalski's ride in Vanishing Point...or maybe a '71 Chevvy Camaro S/S.
Something about a 7-litre Hemi engine's tickover noise just makes the hairs on the neck stand on end...

If I was going retro (although these are admittedly nowhere near as retro), I'd get either an Escort Cosworth, a Lancia Delta Integrale, or a Lotus Sunbeam.
Cool, but for very different reasons!

From the 90s, would be the Lotus Carlton. Mental car for its time. Even faster than Surf Matt's, so can reach light speed in only 4.9 seconds.

    Mk2 Escort RS2000 for me.

My uncle had two Mk2 Escort RS2000, one in green, the other in black. ANd I've been in them lol.
  • They are by far the nicest cars ever.

Helped restore a MK1 Mexico, but MK2 RS2000 make my balls tingle.

My Father-in-Law has a concours-condition Delta Integrale 'la Perla' - I still think it looks like a bicuit-tin on wheels...lol

I had a minty Escort Cossie and an RS500 til my first wife forced me to sell them and buy a 'sensibly-engined' Mondeo - the marriage went downhill from there...

Mk.II RS2000s? Noooooooooooooooooooo! Just a soft car for those that couldn't afford the real RS.....the RS1800!

But if you're going to have an Escort, it's got to be a Group 4 tarmac spec jobby. I did want to build one myself, but prices have gone through the roof.

I think this might be Gp.4 spec although on a modied Pinto engine:

Something from the short lived Group B camp would be nice, RS200, 6R4?
    "Coming through..."
  • RS200's kill people (well, the 650bhp WRX version did anyways)

Nah, i've always wanted the RS2000 with the x pack, proper beast!
Then again, i like the Capri... perfect for a v8!
  • What I want to know is why fuel has almost doubled in the 8 yrs since we invaded Iraq and stole their oil, invaded Afghanistan and stole their drugs and ensured a pipeline could get from the Caspian to get their oil?
Peak oil is a myth, it's even been claimed that the Russians adopted a very different approach to oil extraction than the "fossil fuel mining" we are told happens. Apparently they closely monitor the pressure of a well and at a certain point stop, go elsewhere and drill a new well- eventually the older ones re-pressurise and can be used again, and again. not so much "mining" as "milking".
Why aren't we angry as a nation over the way our banks, who control the government(multi millionaires) are impoverishing and enslaving us at every turn? It's a new feudalism we're heading for. SERFDOM!!!
(oh yeah- F**k the esso garages in Newtonmore/Aviemore and Grantown. Total monopoly on the fuel in the area and no competition exists so they charge what they want. I work in Perth and have never bought fuel locally in the Strath)
