Well I tried some Jawbones on my ride this morning and I have to be honest and say I was disappointed. They weren't very comfortable (which could be the fault of my face) but the bigger problem was that over 15mph the cold air (-3C to -5C) made my eyes water like baggery (I'm guessing via the vents...). I'm not sure the periferal vision was as good either.

The benchmark I was using was a pair of £6 PBK-branded sunnies that I've been using all year but the interchangeable lenses are getting a bit tired.

I'm normally a fan of Oakleys (I have two pairs of titanium Polaroid Whiskers - don't ask) but, for my needs, the Jawbones don't work.

Just to balance things up I will say that after owning Rudy Project, BBB and Bolle my Oakley Jawbones are by far superior.
No problems with comfort and stability, the things fit my face like a glove ( the previous poster is correct in saying it could be to do with his face ) , you need to try Jawbones before you buy, the lower part of the frame can rub against your cheek. I am lucky in that the Jawbones suit my face.
Never any problems with my eyes watering because I dont wear vented lenses.
The quality of the frames are superior in their manufacture and as far as the quality of the optics are concerned, Oakley HDO lead the way.

Try the other nose pieces and use the non vented lenses. It took me a few rides to get used to the lower frame in my field of vision and to look around a bit more to get better all round vision but I'm now totally sold on them.

Yup - I should add that they are very nicely made and the lens change system seems very robust - no complaints on the build quality or the clarity of the lenses - just less good functionality.

Didn't come with any non-vented lenses - which would make them incredibly expensive with lenses added. Don't mind paying a bit but I feel like I'd be spending extra to overcome an issue. The periferal vision bit is pretty important to me as, on single-track roads, I'm having to look back a lot. At the price, the really need to be spot-on for me. I don't doubt they work for others - just flagging to others considering them that they aren't a universal panacea...

Will be trying some other styles though.

+1 to the comment about trying the other nose pieces - I have found that they make a difference, especially when looking behind.

Apologies for the slight thread hijack. Have recently came across some cash I wasn't expecting (just about enough for a pair of Oakleys as it happens) and have been looking into getting a pair of Radars. Been searching around my locale in Ireland and can't find anywhere I can try a pair on. Cyclestore are still doing 30% off Oakleys which seems like a good offer. Was looking at a pair of red framed radar's with photochromic len's for £133. Would prefer a less loud colour frame though as I'm not into massively blinging sunnies. Could also get a pair of black framed radars with grey lens and a spare yellow lens for low light for the same price (should cover all conditions). Just wondering if anyone had opinions on what option to go for. Also am I taking a big risk in buying online before I try them on (bearing in mind that trying them on isn't really an option). Any opinions welcome!!!

Go to http://www.eyewearoutlet.co.uk/ you'll save a bundle and the service is second to none.

I just bought a pair of Radar Paths for £90 cost on the Oakley site £175.

Have a look at www.eyewearoutlet.co.uk - they do official oakley seconds but if you see some you like, contact them via email and they can normally pick you out a perfect pair.

I have bought Jawbones for £69.99 and Radars for £85 from them for a total saving of £150!

Thanks for the link Guys I'll check that place out. So does anyone know if I should go for the photochromic lenses or get regular lenses and just get a second lens for low light. From what I've read you can't order the photochromic lens on its own. Are they worth the extra £££'s

Checked that place out. Cyclestore are only a few £'s more for the radars so would probably pay the extra few quid for ones that aren't factory seconds. Anyone any opinions on whether the photochromic lenses are worth the extra money. Also Is there a huge difference in the coverage between the path and pitch lenses. I presume you can use either path or pitch in the frames when you get spare lenses?

I bought my flak jackets from here:
    http://www.surffusion.co.uk/c/1735/Oakl ... d-Area.htm
saved about £40 for the custom ones over the Oakley site...
Tried the Jawbones on on the Oakley shop and I looked a right idiot, just didn't suit me at all. Half and flak jacket fit well though

I bought M-frame things in the end - work well and have excellent visibility. For what little there is of them, they do seem very pricey though. But I'm hardly aware of wearing them which is always good.

Appreciate the feedback (gotta love BR). Definitely leaning towards the Radars. Anyone out there with photochromic lenses fancy butting in feel free. Just wondering if I should spend the extra £££'s for them or just get a pair with an extra pair of regular lens to cover all conditions?

I have photochromic lenses in my pair of Flak Jacket glasses, and I think they are brilliant. You are never concious of light changes, and as they go down to 9% tint they can be used in just about any light condition. I do also have a set of clear lenses which I use on very overcast days or evenings, or when it's raining. Not because they are too dark, just because I feel like a poser in those conditions with sunglasses on 8)

Do the glasses on that site come with a case also? Could you notice any imperfection on the pair you got??
  • i have radars on my second frame now because i snapped my first in a crash, sent them to oakley and paid about £14 to extend the warrenty and they replaced the frame, they so easily could have just said no buy another set, for this reason i would recommend them time and time again, if you are having problems with jawbones maybe you should have got split jackets? they have a smaller frame, my mate has jawbones and having tried them on wouldn't buy them as they are too big whereas split jackets fit me better than my radars to may buy myself some bling ones as a present if i win a race this year

it's strange how the custom Oakley service in Oakley stores seems to be cheaper than online. I visited an Oakley store yesterday, sussed out some Radars in the colours I wanted and was quoted £175 but got home and the same glasses were on their site for £225.

Btw which colour lenses would be ideal for our cloudy UK weather?

Thanks for the input Twoodley. Can only find photochromics at a reasonable price in infrared frames or white with Text design frames. Both look a bit too blingy to me. Was hoping for something more low key looking. If I had to pick between the two I'd probably go with the white with text design frame. Either that or get a pair with dark and also a spare clear or yellow lens.

A local shop near me sells Oakleys so I popped in to try on some Radars. Price tag on them said €340, I was stunned, can get em for a third of that online. No wonder people buy more online these days. I know small shops can't always compete with online stores but €340 is waaaaay over the mark.

Anyone know if the Oakleys from Eyewear Outlet come with case and more importantly guarantee? Cycle Store UK have good deals also (nearly the same price as seconds from eyewear outlet) but any nice frames they have come with very dark lenses that I probably would never get to use.
