A truly terrible day....

Today has been a nightmare of desperately sad proportions. My 1 year old niece has been dreadfully ill in hospital with swine flu, flu and now bronchitis. Her heart stopped three times today and this evening she has been airlifted to Great Ormond St. hospital as our local children's hospital have done all they can. It seems very grave and I am in floods of tears and today has been utter hell for my family.

It seems unreal, almost like a daze. I have been out all day and come back to the flat - the rest of the family have gone to London but I have work commitments and am holding the fort here.

Anyway, all I am asking is that can people of the cycling community send out a prayer to my niece 'Amelia' right now as she is still fighting and hour by hour no news is good news.

I am not a Dad and I regret that though there is still time at 39, I cant convey how much we all love our families but this has been like a bad soap opera - its just hard to fathom. Gutted.

Hope that she gets better really quickly.

I'm sure that she's in the best of care and the doctors will do everything in their power to save her life.

Best wishes to you and your family.

I don't believe in the power of prayer, but do believe in the power of positive thinking - so I am sending all my positive vibes out to you and your family and hope that everything turns out for the best.

    Pete

I really hope that your niece pulls though.

At least she is in the care of the best children's hospital in the world.

Lots of positive vibes being sent your way Amelia.

Thanks everyone. Feel so choked up over the messages but really appreciate it.

I have spoken to my GF who has gone up and Amelia is critical still but stable however the fear is that she is not yet in the worst of the illness. Her Mum Laura is obvisouly in a complete state and now has not slept for three odd days and very very down.

But Amelia is still fighting, alive and thats good news. I was asked to download soap theme tunes onto an ipod as she loves them and hopefully that will stimulate her and keep her going.

Thanks again from me and the family. Cyclists are kindred spirits of that there is no doubt. I hope that as uncle Pete will be buying her that bike one day still....x

    Pete.
  • What a start to the new year! I'm not a parent either, so I cannot understand what the family is going through, please convey my heartfelt prayers. x

Stay strong and be positive. Especially so for Laura.

My 13 yo son was diagnosed with cancer 3 months ago - we're in the middle of the fight - so I have some sense of the emotions that you are going through. Laura will be looking for support and positive thinking - do your best to be positive around her and other family.

All the best - my thoughts are definitely with you all. I'm sure it'll turn out fine - modern medicine is very capable.
