Tonight's pub quiz has given me a reasonable excuse for a beer or three after my picket stint during the glorious general strike ( chill out all you miserable scrotes who think we should put up and shut up). After picket duty and some compensation for losing £50 (yes I need all the Pension I can get) I baked the second cake in my life, in two weeks. The first was an Xmas Cake laced with Brandy and the second is a Birthday cake laced with Port. Not Beer but both very alcoholic. Next on the list is Vodka jelly for the party on Saturday before trolling down to the local for the bug lights switch on and a few bevvies. I think I shall give the Sunday ride a miss.Giant XTC Pro-Carbon

Just got in from drinking more Pride than is good for me. Austerity measures mean that this was my first beer in 2 weeks. Beer is good. Mmmmmm. Goodnight.0

Did the Fullers tour last week and then tried some interesting beers I've not had before - Past Masters, anyone?

Ok, I want some of that now. I do like this blog. Where the hell do you go to get such a wide variety of beers?
Minor nit: incorrect use of apostrophe in possessive "it's nectar-like".Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes it’s your fault.0 -
Ah, the hazards of drinking and writing.
I mostly went to the brewers themselves this time around, but otherwise the usual suspects of Utobeer, City Beverage Company, Theatre of Wine, etc. There are some good craft beer shops out there nowadays.0 -
I keep forgetting -- London does have some plus points... :-)Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes it’s your fault.0

That Kernel double IPA looks the bizzo. I assume that's the one that's hard to get hold of?0
-
It is now, but it was easy when I laid it in. By contrast, it was almost impossible to get hold of a Camden Pale Ale in bottles - the brewery had run out - but they've been bottling more and now there's stacks of the stuff.
The Kernel one is very, very good. I'm still reeling a bit, quite frankly. :shock:0 -
Your description reminds me of one of the 'best' (inverted commas explained shortly) beers I've ever had, Orkney Brewery's Dark Island Reserve. I got a single bottle of it from a posh food shop in Kenmore while on holiday in Perthshire. It was a similar strength and had a slight medicinal quality followed by an incredible salty tang that I've never quite experienced before or since. The fact that I just had one bottle, albeit a big one, made drinking it (after climbing a couple of local Munros) one of those magical experiences that were I to get another bottle of it, wouldn't ever be quite the same. Hence the inverted commas, because tbh it was such a distinctive flavour I couldn't say for certain I actually liked it all that much, in a funny kind of way (although on the whole, I think I did). But as an experience, it was top notch.0

Nice one. For me, beer is all about the experience and not as much about the taste as people will have you believe.0
-
I'm almost interested to try those two... the descriptions put make me think "pah, bet it's not that bad!". It's this brain-addled thinking that leads to people testing the "Wet Paint" signs.Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes it’s your fault.0
