And they'll sing its praises all through the article and rate a 2 I imagine!
Sarcasm aside, I've also read through this refreshing topic and I'm really impressed! Well done for taking it on - I personally wouldn't have had the courage to do did incase I ended up with a hash! Nice one!Lapierre Spicy 516 XTR custom (2013) -http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=129323320 -
This bike looks really nice (: to say you transformed a apollo into it you did a good job (:0

Thanks! Glad you all like it!
New bars arrived yesterday-Exotic scandium 715mm wide, 255g!
Still waiting for the saddle0 -
Fitted the bars yesterday, and its made such a difference. I think the ride is as good as or if not better than my GT which cost £250 more (so far). The forks are a weak point though-far too stiff- so they might be upgraded soon.0

Awesome (:0

I have just come across your build while searching images. I have been trying to find out for ages what the bike is that I pulled from a skip in January 2010. I have built mine up from a rusty wreck and have been riding it for a year now and it performs really well around Dalby Forest. Take a look and see what you think. You can see the images bigger at flickr.

That is the same frame alright, but yours was a different colour to start with. I heard it was a catalogue frame used by several brands at the time-muddyfox etc. Maybe yours is one origionally branded as something else...0

My son has an ole Apollo that we had considered junking but after reading this it may be an idea to try and resurect it by bolting a few bits and bobs to it. Seeing as you have done this thought I would ask if you thought it a good idea or not, also his had a v brake set up at the rear, how difficult would it be to convert to discs?
Looks good what you have managed to do with your Apollo so can only hope we can do a bit similar.0 -
The frame on this bike already had disk mounts even though it had a rear v brake. You can weld disk mounts to a frame without them, but it is difficult. See FAQ.
Some apollos, like this one, had aluminium frames of a decent quality like this one. If yours is one of these, I can only reccomend doing it up.
However, others had high-tensile steel frames of a poor quality that were very very very very heavy. If yours has one of these frames, my advice would be to not bother. Make sure the frame will take 1 1/8 threadless steerer forks too-some had the threaded type of headtube/headset.0 -
Any pics with new bars and seat?0

Seat hasnt arrived yet, but ill go out to the garage in a few mins and take some pics of the bars if you like...0

Ah, okay. Who made the 2008 carrera kraken frame then? thanks0 -
Nice bike, proof that you don't need to spend a shed load load to get a decent full sus! Just wondering how you are finding the shimano MT15 wheels? Thinking of getting them for a bike I'm planning on building up.0

Thanks!
I have nothing but good things to say about the mt15 wheels-they are cheap, fairly light, strong and reliable. Have had no problems with them whatsoever-they just work.0 -

It's a little-known fact that they are the same bike...
Anyway, I have to say that that bike is impressive.Big guy; small air!0 -
quality :-) both the thread and the bike
the only concern I would have is keeping the rear shock mud-free when it's not dry, would some form of bodge with a pop bottle cut to shape and judicious use of cable ties be worth trying ?"I get paid to make other people suffer on my wheel, how good is that"
