Amazing. Where did you get the paint?0
-
The paint came from some car bodywork place down south. Its actuall ford fiesta "Squeeze" Green, custom made to order in a spraypaint can. Glad you like it though-it certainly is going to be a head turner when it hits the trails. At least no-one will steal it!0
-
Looks like the colour the old Carrera Bugaboo used to come in.0
-
Does anyone have any recomendations on which rear shock to get-the old DNM one is knackered.
Needs to be 165mm eye to eye, 38mm ish stroke. Dont want to spend a lot, tops £130, the lower the better. Ive had my eye on the monarch 4.2s at merlin...0 -
Although the paint Job is very good, I'm disappointed you painted it. Ii would have loved to see the frame all kitted up stickers and all!!Dawes Tamark DX (RIP)
Cube Acid 2010 (RIP)
Saracen Zen 3 (RIP)
Giant Anthem X5
CdF
The whole white bike thing was just coincedence........0 -

We will get some decals for it-maybe some that allude to its past such as the apollo 13 logo etc.0 -
Perhaps you can PM the guy that did the custom build on the Ammaco Matterhorn, he had a stand and everything...
My view simply would be "don't do it !!"0 -

If it doesnt work out i can get a 456 frame and transfer the parts over, and id only be the cost of the paint down.0 -
So, does anyone have any ideas on a replacement rear shock?0

grump.
This is fun, that was the guyes only bike.
also, loving this project so far!!!
I'd say a monarch is a very good bet, but without knowing a thing about the way the frame handles or rides its hard to say what characteristics would be good... look for something with low speed compression would be my suggestion.I like bikes and stuff0 -
New Pics!
The front triangle is now laquered, and the rear triangle is now primed. I will have pics of a painted rear triangle tomorrow.

in its current state it looks a lot more expensive and a hell of a lot better than it did before0
-
That looks good!
I like the idea of getting it some Apollo 13 stickers, subtle, but not making people think it's instantly cr@p.
The monarch will probably be ok. If, once you've got it fully built, you think it's fantastic but needs a better shock, then maybe invest in something better, but for an experiment, I would just get the monarch. It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

I was skeptical at first, but that looks pretty nice!! Looking forward to seeing it built!0
-
i like the idea of this build, im very much looking forward to seing the finished article and finding out what it goes like.0
-
Recent photos please, I'm getting impatient!
(never thought I'd be saying that about a full sus Apollo)0 -
Its Finished!
Well, sort of-the brake hoses are too long and will need shortening before we can ride it. It also needs some wider bars.

Fantastic! Are you going to try it with a new shock? It'll be aweful with that one, but might be ok with something half decent.
Get it muddy and let us know.
Good jobIt takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

Good job
If it rides nice, we will invest in a new rear shock. However, it'll probably be next year by the time it warms up a bit!0 -

wow, some good kit really got the weight down. I had an apollo full sus ages ago and it weighed well over 30lb.0

I havent had it properly weighed, but my mate picked it up and said it felt similar to his steel 456 with fox vanillas and xt bits0 -
If you replace the saddle, it would be hard to believe that it is an apollo.
Loving the paint job, be interesting to see how it rides0 -
Glad to see it is finished. Quite a nice color, and looks like a decent spec.
Rear shock and seat should get upgraded over time, and noone will ever know it's former identiy.0 -
Awesome, new rear shock seat and pedals and it'll be a beaut Any plans for new forks as well?0
