the OP may have wanted all the times to be posted together in tabular format, one under the other, quickest nearest the top, makes it easier for everyone to read and compare

If that's not what you intended MH then I'll slip back into the lurking shadows...

  • Are we expected to do this during a commute? I'm assuming nipping out one evening sans baggies/bag etc. and posting a time having taken a gentle ride from my house (about 2 miles away, but I have to go up hills to descend to the start) wouldn't really be fair?!?

Won't be able to post a time for at least 2 weeks in theory unless I CBA to have a big diversion from the fun and games along DSC and QTR.....

I guess any way is fine, as long as you state the conditions under which the climb was made.

Naturally, I'll be claiming post-Marmotte fatigue for at least another month as a mitigating factor. :D
  • Seeing as there's no actual prize, I don't think it matters as long as you declare it. Will be interested to see how different my times are at FCN 8 & end of a 7 mile commute, vs FCN 2 with fresh legs & caffeine.

I guess the spirit of the challenge is fairly commutercentric, seeing as I've posted it here. My efforts will generally be done on my commute home, with baggies, work bag and commuter bike. At the end of the day though, I suggest we adopt the same rules as for the Richmond Park 3-lap challenge / Box Hill challenge, which is basically that there are no rules but its good to share details of how you did the ride. Its just a bit of fun!

Re the table, I was going to do put the times in a table but thought I'd wait until there were a few quicker than me to avoid it looking like a cock-waving exercise. :P * If anybody else wants to take on responsibility, that's fine by me.

    * I got my time down to 3:06 on Friday night - into a headwind and trying pretty damn hard....

    3.06?

Was hoping to get down to 3.30 which I'd be kinda proud of . . .

Will give it another go tomorrow night with bag etc.
  • Cool, will give this a bash home tonight.

So 3.06 is the new target. Need to work out how to use my Cateye now as a stop watch !

Count me out for tonight. It'll be an achievement if I last the rest of the day in my current state. In fact, it'll be a wonder if I ride back at all.

    *bokes*
  • that was tough.....3:49, where did that wind come from ?
    Joe Waugh Fixed (48*17 )
  • Yep, nasty headwind on the first part this evening. That plus a head cold & a heart not really in it = a rather disappointing 4m10s at FCN 8 from me. Going to have another crack later in the week.

3.28 - Kona Jake the Snake - conditions wet and windy!
  • Same nasty wind, same nasty cold, but a bit more energy & my FCN 2 'weekend' gear (rode it to/from work today, need maximum practice on it ahead of RotFL...) resulting in a rather more respectable 3:32.
  • 3:31 tonight, could prob have gone quicker but had to negotiate about 5 cars at the barriers. Still feel happier than last time

had another go tonight - 3.16. That's probably close to my limit. legs were like jelly by the last climb, and I needed oxygen at the top!
  • 3:18 from me.. evil cold lifting a bit, but that hurt  Mat, I don't think your 3:00 is under any threat from over here. One of these days going to have to knock off work a bit earlier (chance'd be a fine thing) & try and run in to some of you.

Wonder if the toll booth operators are going to get curious why so many road cyclists have suddenly taken to fiddling with their stopwatches / gps / phones right by the booth :?:

I think I could get that down by 15-20 seconds as I was stymied by a stupid Volvo and a few nodders getting in the way.

Definitely found a new route 'home', though, circuitous though it is. Sunray Avenue is a great call to avoid Red Post Hill lights... unless you get stuck behind a ruddy bus.

    Gah!

Am I going to have to go all the way to Dulwich?!
  • Ey Ketsbaia, I'll have my 3:18 @ FCN2 in the table if you don't mind :P

Currently in the (worryingly expensive) process of converting my everyday commuter bike to a winter roady, will give College Hill another crack once that's done ("I may be some time...")

I'm not compiling the list - I just cut and pasted it from Mat's original.

    Do it yerself! :D

(I'm having another go tonight to see if I can shave some seconds off)

I'll give this a crack on Friday (next time on the bike), though I have a feeling I might feel embarrassed posting my time !

Better effort tonight aided by pre-climb pootling rather than full-on SCRing. Headwind was an issue early doors, meaning I ran out of steam a bit by the top.

Need to find a time to do this on the posh bike - the commuter isn't going to get up that hill at all! Might try it on Sunday morning if the weather's OK.

Gave this another crack on the way home last night. Wind wasn't too bad (compared to the last time I did it anyway) but replace hangover with a bag and15 miles of SCRing beforehand and an improvement of 25 secs is not to be sniffed at :) Can I do better? Hope so . . .

Curses. Had another go tonight but when I got to the top I must have pressed reset on the stopwatch because it was at 0 minutes and 0 seconds.

That or I genuinely bent the structure of time and space itself with my awesome power.

First timed effort for a couple of weeks tonight, felt good but riding in the dark threw me a bit, the end seemed to come really quickly and I still had plenty left in the tank. Felt fast, but only 3:07 so no PB. WIll go for it tomorrow night, see if I can crack 3 minutes on the commuter. If not, I might go back over the weekend on the Viner with all the gear!

I reckon I could crack three minutes on the 'dale with all the gear and no SCR action beforehand. Need to shift this catarrh first, though. Nearly coughed both lungs up last night at the top.
