The, so called, big deal with this pedal is that it doesn't require you to overcome spring resistance to clip in. This caught my eye because I never thought that overcoming that little bit of spring resistance, to clip in, was a problem.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong???? :? :? :?
This pedal with this '"great new feature" is 250.00 USD.
But isn't that like saying I don't need clipless pedals, I can quite easily reach down and loosen my toe strap? What's wrong with making a pedal that's easier to clip into? And sure you can spend $250 if you want the super-dooper titanium axles, but for the rest of us, they also make a cheaper version for around $100.0 -

I know what you're saying. I guess I was commenting more on how the advertisement
made it seem like clipping in was a real problem on other pedals and this was the solution.
It's as if they created a problem(that doesn't exist) and then started selling the cure for it.0 -
Time created a problem by stopping the Impact series which were generally loved, for the crappy RXS resin bodied junk. Now to get around the junk of RXS they have invented a new pedal FFS!!! Guess the problem is you don't make money selling a pedal/cleat combo that lasts and Time learnt their lesson at our loss.
On a wider note though can the market bear all the increases in prices? Many people are losing jobs or seeing their income fall as a result of flat earnings and tax rises. It will be interesting to see how it pans out. Plus expect more consolidation of companies, I wouldn't be surprised if soon most well known brand names are owned by 3 or 4 companies, we aren't to far away now with Trek, Spec and Giant dominating the market.0 -

I would still buy the "Equipe" if Time still made them0 -

Some people aren't getting the point of this. I wasn't comparing high end bicycle with high end motorcycle. I was comparing what you could get for the same money.0 -

Have you heard of Steve Jobs and iPad?0 -
Why pay for Hublot, Patek, Blancpain etc when a Armani tells the same time?
Why buy Mont Blanc or Breguet, when a Parker writes the same words?
Some people crave to be the one that owns it. If you have the cash, you'll buy it just because it IS the best.
Would anyone ever ride those though? They're surely built for trade stand and are themselves advertising0 -
So for around £9k I could have a very nice CBR with loads of pedigree and race bred development behind it! or, I could have the Cervelo with nice kit on it that has race bred development behind it, and lots of marketing BO**OX!! (IMHO)
Umm, how much of a MUG do I fancy being?0 -

Well, it;s not quite as simple as that is it? In the case of a motorbike, the vast majority of the performance really DOES come from the engineering, whereas on a bicycle, because all of the power and most of the weight is held by the rider, the point of diminishing returns is reached far sooner.- - - - - - - - - -

Yeah course they do and Motorcycle ride reports are full of it and always have been. All the cycle industry is at it now, I just find it hard to take.
My carbon Viner, although I love it I cant honestly say it feels "that" much better than my first bike a 531c. Probably stiffer and better looking, but as for all day comfort......not convinced.0 -
I've been sort of rethinking this and it seems to me that we men may be mugs for the same reason women are mugs. None of us can resist the sparkle and the glitz. Women love those diamonds and men love fancy cars and fancy bikes(pedal and motorcycle). I'm coming to the conclusion that cyclist, most of them anyway, don't really believe all the
bullsh*t claims of the cycling manufacturers, advertisers, and magazines. What we do believe in is showing off a great paint job, really tech looking parts, sparkly cabon fiber, having other people know we have lots of money, and the latest stuff. We're showoff's, all of us, men and women. Well, that's the way I'm leaning toward anyway.0 -

I can agree to that (apart from the "having other people know we have lots of money" part as 1) I don't & 2) I'm not a wideboy City trader from the 1980's (or any other year, come to think of it!))0 -

Maybe I should change that to letting people know that we will spend to our limits on our hobbies. People do tend to buy the best they can afford. My wife and I bought a Lincoln LS. It's not a Rolls by any means, but it's very nice, fairly showoffish, and we could afford it. Do we NEED a Lincoln? No, but it sure looks good and does have lots of amenities. On sort of the flip side of this - does my wife NEED a great big diamond ring?
Of course she does. She told me so.0 -
