  • Heehee thanks nicklouse... in all honesty I have absolutely no idea what the crank fitting is, it's an FSA Vero crankset, but I've got park tools website and a book, so I may be able to work it out!

if they are like the ones on CRC they will be Square taper, you will see when you remove the bolt.

if the tool has a removable tip you need the small end fitted as the bigger one , for splined crank interfaces, will not work.

here is the Park tool showing the ends

    and another version

The basic process is as follows:

Unscrew bolt securing crank to end of BB axle - should be an allen head.

This will leave a circular threaded hole, with the square end of the BB axle visible. Screw the puller into the thread until finger tight, taking care not to cross the threads.

Now start widing the central part of the puller in, so that is starts to push on the end of the BB axle. As you keep winding, it will slowly pull the crank off the end of the BB axle. Unscrew puller from the crank and repeat on the other side.

The different sized ends of the puller are for different sized ends of BB axle. You'll want the smaller end for the square taper FSA Vero cranks.

I have a lidl bike tool kit...

I am not sure what most of the things in it are, but the bb tool RJS posted earlier looks very familiar.

Did you keep the cardboard sleeve the toolkit came in - it lists all the tools on the back. Defo a good idea not to throw it away......
    Faster than a tent.......
  • @SimonAH - what and what? :?

I couldn't work out how to get the cranks off, unfortunately. I don't think I left myself long enough to try and do it, and I'm not 100% sure the tool I was trying to use was even the right one...

I'm going to get Fuji to sort it...

Make sure you've not got self extracting bolts first before you buy a tool. Alternatively ride round in circles with the bolts out carefully, that will loosen it. Keep checking though becuase you can knacker the cracks. Actually, don't do that, just in case.

This is my post of the year so far.
