Looks much better in my opinion Sheeps, nicely done. Does the paint look as good close up?

I'd say switch the pedals for black ones, and it'll be very ninja 8)

turned out good that. big fan of stealth or silver, either works for me, and they're dead easy to make look nice.

how different feely is it from the last hardtail is it? or is it all 'hardtail' to you?

the paint is nicely applied, i used halfords cans and they went on easy peasy, no runs or anything. the quality is rubbsih overall though because i didnt remove all of the previous finish so the surface is uniform in colour, but not as smooth as it could have been.

i figured it was going to look rubbish anyway so didnt bother putting any effort in, i really regret that now though as it was super easy to do and might have ended up just the way wanted.

as it happens, at some point it will get sent to a paowder coater/sprayer to get the work done properly.

im looking at fitting some gt decals and im thinking red outline hollow letters, just one on each side of the down tube.

i wasnt intending to keep it either, just use it for the parts but i weighed the frame this morning once it was stripped down and it weighs in at about 1.9kg which i thought was pretty good to be honest so i may well end up keeping it, especially as i like how it looks now too.

as for how it feel, it feels ok, its quite brutal under the old bumcheeks so i re-fitted the fatter tyres but its a decent weight, good spec and zips along nicely on the slimmer tyres which i think i will put back on as the big rear tyre is quite snug in the rear stays.

oh, i changed the bars for a higher rise and i have fitted the strokers which are nice, feel exactly like the old hayes nines which i used to like too.

Looks really good mate. Reminds me of my old rock lobster, loved the stealth black finish. Gloss black GT decals would look quite smart too, keeping it stealth like.

see, ive broken my own rules, i would normally suggest to anyone who wants bike colour advice: matt black with gloss black decals.

ive got red ones on teh way so i will offer them up and see what they look like before i apply them.

i was going for a look similar a 24seven slacker ss, all black but with a small bright accent:

I bought it for £150 and sold it for £300, that's what you call a mark up ;)
  • Hah why oh why did someone sell it for 150, hah so wish you still had it for sale :x

Honestly don't know why the guy sold it at £150, saw it on pinkbike and snapped it up. the guy had spent like £800 overall on it, including buying the bike in the first place.

P.s sorry for invading your thread Sheepsteeth. You did post a picture of a former bike of mine though, so I should be let off this time right?

yeah, i knew the bike i wanted a picture of and that came up on google search, it showed the orange bits clearer than most of the other pics so i used it to demonstrate the general look i was going for.

Matt black and Orange is a very good colour scheme I have to admit.

Sounds good to me, paint job looks pretty decent to me to say you did it so quickly. Will look even better once you have had it done properly.

    new tyres turned up today:

specialized purgatory 2.2 for the front
specialized the captain 2.0 for the back

both have beeen converted to tubeless already using some spare stans strips i had on the dt 5.1d rims. took about half an hour and most of that tim ewas wrestling the last tyre off the rims. as soon as i started pumping the tyres up they started inflating and have sealed already.

still waiting for the new seat clamp lever and the decals. once they are fitted, the bike is finished, i feel like i should get a "better" crank but the new superstar isis bb and the old truvativ cranks are running real well.

one last question is should i remove the decals from the wheels?

i tend to like to remove the decals from wheels and i think these will look more stealth if just plain black.

NO. because it's the only highlight on the bike - and looks good.

see what it's like after you've added the other decals

    Looking good Sheeps!

I'd maybe remove the DT stickers, and just have the Hope Hoop ones left. But I agree with the above, see what it looks like with the decals, and decide from there :)

Stickers are subtle enough. Not sure how it'd look with no stickers on the rims, maybe get a photoshop done?

stickers are subtle enough but i'd take the small oval ones off and whatever it is directly opposing them. looking good though

this is exactly what i did earlier. those oval ones are the hope hoops stickers as are the ones opposite. its a tiny change but im very happy with it.
