The thing with the last stage is that if a rider gets the last corner wrong they can find themselves way back in the final straight with no momentum. Thor was this -> <- close to hitting the barriers last year. It's thrown up some unusual winners in the past - Steegmans, Nazon, Konyshev, Minali, Zanini.

He will probably console himself with his 4 or most likely 5 stage wins
It’s the most beautiful sport in the world but it’s governed by ***ts who have turned it into a crock of ****.

They should've all waited because he might have had a mechanical.

Nah ... because just as the polka doesn't signify the best climber, the green jersey doesn't the best sprinter.
Best climber AS closely followed by AC, best sprinter Cav ... no contest.
.. who said that, internet forum people ?

It's a case of saying "I'm so good I can win whilst not even looking the right way"

He's looking to see where his competition is

Oh, I know that. I also know that Cav is a keen student of the history of the sport and a Cipo fan (one legged TT aside) and may well be aware of Cipo's celebration and may have been copying him.

In that case definitely plagiarism  :

I've never raced in my life, but I can imagine how supremely good it must feel to be able to look back like that at the end of a stage.

Cav's now done four stage wins in three successive Tours - anyone know who else has done that (I'll start - Merckx)? There was a list of those who've done 3x3 when he won stage 11 but can't seem to find it.

    Rene Le Greves 1934-36 4-4-6

    Near misses:

    Nicolas Frantz 1925-28 4-4-3-5
    Francois Faber 1908-10 4-6-3
    Charles Pelissier 1929-31 1-8-5

As you can see, these are all pre-war, when cycling was a whole different sport really.

    Merckx's record is amazing: 1969-72 6-8-4-6

It's an extraordinary achievement by Cav. This is really unprecedented domination in Tour sprinting. (He'll still lose the Sports Personality award to Tony McCoy, though).

Good! 'cos as a sprinter he's excellent, as a personality he has so much to learn - not spitting on people perhaps the first.

Slightly off topic, but I hate it when all that Hollywood bolleaux invades the Tour. It's a jarring culture clash.

Anyway, the pic above is awesome.

And Cav was damned fast today.

There's more than one meaning to 'personality', you know. By your definition Phil Tufnell would have won five times.

And he didn't spit on anyone. He spat on the floor in front of them.

I think it is Surprise and relief after the first week and that Renshaw is missing.
He can't believe what he saw under arm and just had to have a look.
His interviews seemed more Humble today I thought.

A great comparison you made with Mario.

I cant quite recall who it was but a poster in this forum made great play of the fact Cav wouldnt amount too much , wonder what he thinks now some 14 stage wins later

I've been closely studying that celebration photograph as well.
    Is he circumcised?
