Only thing that makes the Premiership the best league in the world.... is all the foreign players in it!

Exactly ! Maybe people will realise that now and stop signing average foreigners.

When are people going to stop just looking for a manager or player as a scapegoat and realise that we need to have better skills development for youngsters?

I'm disappointed in Algeria, they could have won this.

Come off it,don't you watch the premiership?.Those players last night could'nt control the ball or pas or cross. If they played that badly for their club teams they would'nt get a game as you could bring in MORE foreign players for half the money. So they obviously can play at a high standard or at least better than that dross last night.By the way i did'nt think they'd even make the semis at the start.I think a lot of England fans are realistic in realising we're a good way off the best. The Italia 90 team were a level above the current team but even they fell short

It`s just England, not "Team England".

That's a tough question. Born in Singapore to British and Irish parents. Raised in Canada and live in the UK. But ride for the Irish National Team. I cheer for Canadian hockey, Irish cycling and English football.

I would love to see England win the world cup as much as the next guy. But they really are just an average team. Yes, they play better for their clubs - but they are usually being fed the ball and are surrounded by foreign players. It's the players AROUND you that make you a better player. You can't do it all on your own.

Last night was not that much of a surprise really. After all the vast majority of the side are perennial losers who would not get anywhere near a place in the top 10 European club sides - James, Johnson, Carragher, Barry, Lennon, Gerrard, Heskey, Wright Phillips, Crouch and Defoe.

You`re quite cosmopolitan really. Respect due for riding for an international team, I bet there aren`t many on here who can say they do that.

Before you get too excited - it's the Paralympic squad (I am missing a leg). But a National Team nonetheless. Off to the World Championships in a few months!

Gerrard would get in any team, hes world class. John Terry on the other hand is only good at shagging.

England already won the World Cup this year.... the T20 Cricket World Cup!

Sadly the England football team always underperforms. For a country where football is so far ahead as the number one sport it is very sad. All of the best athletes go into football. They earn too much money too quickly and waste the talent they have. Football is one of the few sports where your career can essentially be a failure, but where you retire a millionaire.

I'm sure some will complain about the pressure on the players or something like that, but these guys are used to big match pressure. Anyway, if they can't handle the pressure of group games against inferior sides, how will they cope against one of the top teams?

There must be an argument, surely, for making all Premiership squad players ineligible for the national team. Find some hungry players on the way up who would play out of their skins rather than some bloated, overpaid, egotistical posers (Wayne Rooney excepted on all counts apart from overpaid) and let them loose.

The skill difference between best and almost best is minimal, but the attitude, passion and hunger can be worlds apart.

Actually - it was a rugby injury that went wrong. Broken foot, nerve damage, infection, etc, etc. No big deal really. Could happen to anyone.

England were never going to compete at the World Cup. They're not good enough. And before anyone jumps on the bandwagon and asks when Scotlands first game is, I know we aren't there and you are.

The whole of Britain has a problem producing technically gifted players. Heart, yes. Athletic, yes. Fit, yes. When it comes to passing, touch, tactics, awareness etc we are torture!

England have 3 world class players IMO. Rooney, Gerrard and Lampard and this could be Lampard and possibly even Gerrards last World Cup.

Where is the new talent coming from? It's fecking depressing.

Just a pre-season tournament before the proper football starts mid August

Knew England were never going to win but didn't expect us to be so poor.

Pokerface, chapeau lad. Best of luck mate, keep us informed. Although starting a thread with I'm world champ might sound big headed

+1. The lack of drive and ambition, as well as the complete inability to perform as a team was painful to watch. The whole England 'expects' thing might be detrimental but think that we should expect more considering the amount the players are paid.

We took Croatia apart, twice playing some very good football.I think the croates are slightly better than Algeria as well as quiet a few teams at the world cup&the only reason they're not at the world cup is we were better. We have decent players but whether they're mentaly strong well that's debatable. It's almost like stagefright.Spain have had the same problem for years&years.Brilliant players, fantastic in qualifying but freeze at the big tournaments up until 2yrs ago

I think Messi would be fantastic playing down the park on sunday just as i would look crap playing in the premiership no matter who was playing beside me.So the argument that the foreigners make the England players good is load of b**ll*cks

I promised my Dutch colleagues this morning that if England win the world cup i will cycle to work on the following Monday morning naked except for cycling shoes. We were awful yesterday, the worst performance i can ever remember seeing. I feel sorry for the fans who paid a lot of money to see there team perform so poorly.

    Gerrard was interviewed post match

"This was their world cup final"

Arrogance like that is part of the problem.
Feel free to rib me if you are celtic. I just don't care anymore!!!

I normally would, but that performance was so bad I actually feel sorry for England fans

Slovenia won't be easy to beat (remember they qualified at the expense of Czech Republic, Poland, Northern Ireland and Russia). However I think you will beat them and top the group, then if Germany win their group you'll avoid them in the last 16 and have an 'easy' path to the semi against Brazil.

Slovenia only need a draw out of the last group game so theoretically just get men behind the ball and play a counter-attacking game. England need the win, but on the last two outings they've looked totally clueless.

I'd remind them of this the next time their respective agents are negotiating a multi-million pound contract.

Maybe they should drop the 4 4 2 formation.
