Was just wondering what the most expensive bike may be that someone has built up themselves (not pro) seeing as you can pay some hefty prices for goodies these days, frames 3k,wheels 5k etc :)
A road twice travelled is never as long.

I'll weigh in first with a fairly puny £4700 for my C50.

Won't take long for many to beat that, I'm sure.

    Off you go lads......

I suppose it depends if we are talking RRPs or what you actually paid!!

I had an R3SL with Record 10 speed group and Lightweight Standard III wheels...RRP was probably somewhere in the region of £7.5K??? Jeeeez thats a lot. worth more than my car!!! but I probably paid about half this......Still far too much on a push bike...!!

    How vulgar...

    a bragging thread?!

    Wilier Cento Uno
    Full Sram red groupset
    3T carbons gubbins
    and floaty wheels.

A lot cheaper than it would cost out of a shop. A heck of a lot cheaper, but just the same and just as new!

I have a really nice Dolan that I paid £600 for. Does that count?

I've never paid full retail for any of my bike stuff. So all my bikes were built at bargain prices. RRP prices would be somewhat more.

I had a Tarmac Pro (Which I sold and still regret)

Mavic Ksyium SL Wheelset, Dura Ace/Ultegra Groupset, S-Works Bits, cost me about £500 to build up. Would have set me back several grand if it was bourght RRP.

Or my StumpJumper which would have been £3.5k but cost me about £700 to build. My Roubaix is running almost full SRAM Rival which cost me less than £200. New.

Its not how much you spend, its what you have, and if you like it.

    My CAAD9 cost me £900.

I'd rather have 7.5 CAAD9's rather than one overpriced 7.5k bike.

I think i can top this but i am going to need someone to rem whos bike this was, it was a Scott Addict i think the top of the range. Was all black and gold had so much bling it was ridiculous gold hubs, 9 carat gold chain gold leaf on the framework and gold braided brake and gear cables i think? This was one of a kind and it got so many posts, just cannot think whos it was i thik the person posting it was doing it on behalf of a mate as an example seeing as they were also building a scott Addict ( it may of not been an addict but i think tht is the top of the Scott Range??)

Anyone remember it the guy was saying it was close to 10k in value !!!

Yep. Thread fail. I built my Cadex for ~£600 and I could probably ride it in reverse quicker than some overweight poser on a £6K Trek.

Our village window cleaner is always on his bike, great lad. I was blethering to him outside the post office the other day and he was admiring my Marin, I got it second hand a few months ago for very little. He said, "that's nothing, I've never paid for a bike. The boy at the dump tells me if anyone leaves a decent one there." :-)

Well I knew/hoped someone would pick me up on it - thanks. My post is - intentionally - just as pointless and provocative/offensive as someone discussing how many Ks their bike cost.

This is a cycling forum, not somewhere we compare stock market portfolios. If your bike's sh1t hot, that's great and I'll probably tell you I really like it and want one. However most of us don't give a flying eff how much it cost.

And FWIW, I could go out at lunch and buy several Di2 equipped Dogmas using my current account, but why would I think anyone cares?

If you're not interested in a thread, don't post on it.

It's not rocket science, is it?

Spare me your sanctimonious "how vulgar" crap.

I'm interested in expensive bikes - this is a crime against humanity, is it?

    Get a life.
