I'll probably watch the England games, and a few of the grudge matches, but that will be it. All of the hype and the expectation is just a turn-off.

I'm hugely excited. I love the footie. I will watch as many of the games as possible, and have booked some days off work for the most exciting looking matches.

Will probably stop doing club runs for a few weeks as they clash with the 12:30 kick off matches.

Not a massive football fan but I love the world cup. The atmosphere of the whole country is electric and as for being in a pub watching England play :):):)

Must admit though if the weather's good I will sneak out whilst a match is on and take my motorbike for a trash on the empty roads - best bit :)

Was in the pub that time England beat Holland 4-0 (?) Was it European Championships? The atmosphere was great and everyone was, obviously, bladdered.

These days I couldn't give a monkeys. Successive years of ridiculous salaries, overseas imports, and cynical play may have improved the quality of the game but just about destroyed the interest and enjoyment for me.

As for watching England play; 20 minutes of hope and expectation usually followed by 70 minutes of dull and disappointing football.

Can't wait for the TdF though! :D

We'll draw 1-1 with the US tomorrow, then go out in the quarter finals. I used to love football but I see more passion on the local park on a Sunday morning than I see on a pro footy pitch - and I don't mean couples sh*ggin'.

I'll be doing my best to avoid it, and if I do find myself in front of a tv when it's on, I'll take the opportunity to peel the skin off my shins !!

  • To watch the games is one thing.... but why do we have to be told/shown/what they should do/what they should have done/what they had for breakfast/how many 'dumps' they've had...this must go on for hours before the match and after ..I do'nt wish to know all that.... just get on with the game I just fined all that time filling bo**ocks

Cannot wait for it to start. Only once every 4 years which make it that bit more exciting for me.

Only 2 things that get close to it in my book are the TDF and Le Mans.

I'll be avoiding it like the plague. I'd probably show some interest if it wasn't for all the pish that surrounds it. I can't stand the commentators. (this is my stance on football in general)

Bring on the TdF! I'm sure I read somewhere that ITV are showing most / all of the stages live. If that's true I'll be taking time off, getting in a heap of nibbles, and planting myself in front of the telly for 3 weeks.

the atmosphere seems to be anything but electric; much more subdued than past cups. Maybe people have more realistic expectations this time around.

Anyone not excited by the World Cup must have a heart of stone. Or hate football. Either way, je ne comprends pas

Somewhere in France, a man who was always picked last at playtime gets the chance to write an article on the World Cup....

They don't bother me. Anyway, It's only 3 weeks a year; football's all year round, evey year, every week, every day. I can avoid the telly, the radio and the papers (football section's just a gossip column for blokes), but I can't avoid total strangers. It's probably a reaction to the Rangers / Celtic / sectarianism that I grew up with, and hate.

    Anyhoo: TdF for the win!

Yes, because I drew Spain in the office sweepstake :D

No, because I can't wear my favourite Scotland kit for the duration, or a week after England are knocked out (whichever is the earlier). :(

I have adopted Serbia as my country to support. I have no idea if they're any good, or who their best players are, but I'm sure they appreciate it anyway.

One other thing... HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNKKKKKKKK. I think it's going to get quite annoying quite quickly.

    No interest, at all.
On the bright side, footy in the afternoons makes it easier for me to train twice a day!
