    Only 5? Tricky.

I've chosen my favourites from separate genres. In no particular order:

    2001: A Space Odyssey
    Scarface
    Papillon
    Napoleon Dynamite
    Aliens

I don't count 2001: A Space Odyssey as sci-fi to be honest... don't know what genre it should be in!

Consequences.... are just a harmless by-product of having a good time, all the time.

    Metropolis It speaks for itself.
2001: A Space Odyssey I'm surprised that it's been mentioned a few times already as I'm the only one that I know that thinks it's brilliant.
Irreversable Told backwards and in French. Contains the most realistic, and disturbing, rape and smashing in of someone's head with a fire extinguisher that I've ever seen.
The Usual Suspects Still not sure whether Kaiser Soze really exists.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Visually stunning and you can almost believe that people can run up walls, fly etc. Beautifully choreographed fight scenes.

A sixth, because I just can't leave it out: Fargo

Ive gone mad(max) on dystopian futures films recently, submarine films and anything with a film score by Roy Budd so:

1)'Das Boot' - the best sub film going!
2)'Le Temps du loup' (time of the wolf)
3)Anything early Jean Luc Godard - 'alphaville', 'a woman is a woman', 'le weekend' being faves
4)'Who Dares Wins', 'Marseilles contract' - Roy Budd is the don of spy / thriller / psychadelia soundtracks
5)'Treeless Mountain' - Korean film, its a little gem of a movie.

and cos I never go by the rules thought I would add another : 'Samson and Delilah' (2009) Aussie film and whilst Im at it 'Ten canoes' as well. :)
'since the flaming telly's been taken away, we don't even know if the Queen of Englands gone off with the dustman'.
