TBH, if you go down the power training route, heart rate is a bit redundant (although I still tend to use mine).0 -
Yeah, I would say if you are not interested in GPS functions don't bother with a 705. I just have the little yellow computer and that suits me fine. Then again maybe I don't know what I'm missing.
I'm not even convinced of the need for computers like the Joule. Is it really important to know TSS and stuff like that while on the bike? You can work it out roughly in your head as you go along - a good distraction for those boring bits in a long ride!Le Blaireau (1)0 -

- backlight for training in the dark
- customisable display so you can see instant and average or lap average watts at same time
- huge memory capacity so you don't have to download after every ride
- ability to read data of an infinite number of laps on the head unit (not just last 9)
- customisable training programs (very handy for 30s on/30s off intervals)
- virtual training partner
I'll let you know if I think of 'owt else0 -
to answer a few points,
Its a new powertap, calibrated with no tension on the chain.
My heart-rate was pretty low there, max is 196.
and I'm not that young Nap, I'll be a vet next season!!
After PB'ing on the club 10 tonight I'm thinking the powertap is probably reading ok, I didn't actually use it but I can feel my effort on the road is alot higher than in the kitchen!0 -

If you are talking power numbers he said he didn't use the powertap however if you are talking tt times then I'll not attempt to get in touch with my spirit guide as I think the signal is a little fuzzy just now much like my own head0 -
no power figures but did a 24.29 on our dodgy club 10 course. Got a 25 tomorrow but going to stick with the disc as it looks like being a good day.0

20 min test tonight, 231W. Not much fun without a fan! Felt hard but more in the tank.0

Is most of your training on the turbo or on the road? If its on the road then you should test on the road. My power is down 10-20 Watts on the turbo even with two 16" pedestal fans blasting me.More problems but still living....0 -

mainly on the turbo, not that i do that much. Try to race 1/2 times a week so thats training in itself.
I do have a fan btw, it was in the nippers bedroom what with the heat.0 -

right, some "real world" figures after last nights club hill climb.
peak 20 min power was 287W, so 95% should give me a theoretical FTP of 273W meaning 3.8W/Kg.
I think?0 -
That's more like it!0

A more believable ballpark now certainly, however it could be anywhere from 90% to 98% of your best 20minutes in a test.

I do most weekends but I'm after getting under the hour for the 25's so the disc goes on not the powertap - way too heavy!0 -
