I've read that you can get "onboard analysis" as cycleops call it with the 705 [average power, last 5 secs etc] that you cant on the yellow powertap head unit. Can anyone confirm before i splash the cash?

You can get 3 and 30s on the 705. The LYC was better in that respect as last 5 secs was the best IMO...0

hmmm, worth the extra though? 3 secs should be ok on the turbo?0

As an alternative - I have the Garmin 500. You don't get maps, but it's a lot smaller. You still get all the other benefits of a Garmin at a lower price.
When you're finished your ride, you can upload your results to the Garmin website and it shows you on a map where you've ridden. You can also pre-program a route - and it will tell you when are where to turn (just not a mini-map on screen).
3 pages of data with up to 8 fields per page are available on the 500. More than you could ever need!0 -
Just to add, when you buy the elite+ as a system, the yellow puter is a down spec version and does not display 30s, 5s or 3s rolling averages. It only gives current power or lap/interval average power Not a problem but it does get a bit annoying having the power figures jump around so much.
I much prefer the garmin 500 as I can view av power, 30's power and 3's power all at the same time. Great for pacing and making sure you don't spike your power.0 -

 Fark that! Just one at a time is good for me, or I spend too much time watching stats develop, and not enough time with my mind on the job... :roll:Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!0 -

I just do one at a time...
On the turbo I just have Av power 30s (or 3s for sprint type intervals) and lap time...0 -

Maybe I didnt make myself clear, I've had a 705 for a couple of years! It was the LYC I was debating buying so looks like I'll just buy the hub then.0

It's rather disappointingly small - a bit like my FTP0 -

It looks at the whole PMC (Performance Management Chart) in much greater detail (well the PMC isn't actually covered in the first edition but it's princple components were except TSB). The PMC is probably the most interesting feature of WKO+ and understanding what it is telling you is probably it's greatest feature.
I haven't got the whole way through my copy yet but I do like the whole fatigue profiling section. It refines testing a little further to help you getting a mcuh rounder of view of where you are strong and where you are weak.
I like the way the suggested workouts are presented in this edition of the book as it gives a much broader range of workouts to work from and I think gives a better insight into why the workout is constructed in the way it is in order to achieve the desired outcome.
There is a specific section for triatheletes and a combined chapter for other discplines such as bmx, cyclocross, ultra endurance.
As I say I haven't got through much of it yet so that's only what has jumped out at me so far.0 -
oh well, its costing me nowt! :0)0

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Nice to get the uptodate copies of things however the meat of what forms part of the 1st edition still forms the meat of the second and if you join the wattage google group you can get a lot of information on how to use the PMC effectively. Just means a little more digging but that can be interesting of itself as you can get a lot of information along the way about why things may or may not work as well so can answer a lot of questions before you have had time to ask them.0 -
My 705 graced me with a wattage figure for the first time tonight.
It was a beautifull moment0 -

Mine too yesterday.
I broke my arm riding the track last week, so figured a PT was the only thing to keep turbo training interesting (!?!) for the next 6 weeks.
I did a Graded Exercise Test as per Joe Friels CTB, but it has given an FTP approx 10% higher than I am expecting. Will try a 20min effort tonight at my predicted FTP and see how that feels.0
