This is the 80's playlist in my iPod right now. It started as an "alternative-haven't heard it for ages" kind of thing, but it keeps changing.

    Can't Hardly Wait, The Replacements
    She Sells Sanctuary, The Cult
    Lazy, Love and Rockets
Kiss The Dirt (Falling Down The Mountain), INXS
    Just Like Heaven, The Cure
Some Candy Talking, The Jesus and Mary Chain
Pretty In Pink (Remastered), The Psychedelic Furs
    Head Over Heels, The Go-Go's
    Dancing With Myself, Billy Idol
Wouldn't It Be Good, Nik Kershaw
    Avalon, Roxy Music
    E=MC2, Big Audio Dynamite
    Love Vigilantes, New Order
    Rise, Public Image Limited
    Indigo Eyes, Peter Murphy
    I'm Sorry, Hothouse Flowers
It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine), R.E.M.
    And We Danced, The Hooters
    Lavender (1998 Remaster), Marillion
    Through the Barricades, Spandau Ballet

I didn't include Mr Springsteen here, because, that's another religion all together....!

Just went into my 80's playlist and was going to do a screen dump but have decided to hold on to what's left of my dignity

There are a few good ones on there (mainly by The Jam) but some real cheese too but I still love it.

I thought that was a great idea.

I listed my iTunes in year order and one from 1985 was

"Fish Below The Ice" by Shriekback :P

    Just above it is

"Merry Christmas Everyone" by Shakin' Stevens

Never, ever, ever let me do that again!

    OK among my list:-

    Eloise - The Damned
Cars / Are Friends Electric - Gary Newman (yes, I know Cars is from 79!)
    Gold - Spandau Ballet
Hold Me Now / Doctor Doctor - Thompson Twins
Save a Prayer / Rio / Hungry Like The Wolf - Duran Duran
    Enola Gay - OMD
Ashes to Ashes / Heroes - David Bowie
99 Red Balloons - Nena
Run to You / Summer of 69 - Bryan Adams
Bat Out Of Hell / Modern Girl / Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad - Meatloaf
Every Rose Has It's Thorns - Poison
Going Underground / A Town Called Malice / Down In The Tube Station At Midnight / That's Entertainment - The Jam (some maybe late 70's)
Prince Charming / Stand and Deliver - Adam and the Ants

I've also got pretty much all of the Metallica Master of Puppets, Ride The Lightning and Justice for All albums on there plus Guns N Roses - Appetite for Destruction and G 'N R Lies and loads of other 80's hair bands.

    A slightly eclectic mix!

Anyone remember "no more I love yous" by The Lover Speaks? Annie Lennox covered it and I honestly don't think I've ever heard her or any radio DJ acknowledge the original.

Quite a few of my faves already mentioned here. Here's a few more:
    - You spin me round (like a record) - Dead or Alive
    - I fought the law - Clash
    - Red Red Wine - UB40
    - Give me all your lovin'/Sharp dressed man/Legs - ZZ Top (OK, it was more about the videos)
    - Addicted to love - Robert Palmer (ditto  )
    - Too much too young - Specials
    - Word Up - Cameo
    - Just can't get enough - Depeche Mode
    - Smash it up - The Damned

My history is a bit ropey, some of these might be late 70's but what the hell....

The 80s - I reinvented myself over and over through that decade - it's what the 80s was all about.

1980 - ditched the 2Tone look I'd had at the end of 1979 and adopted the ways of the Numanoids - and briefly got quite into adam and the ants - dirk wears white sox era
1981 - as synthesisers hit the main stream I started listening to the likes of the the, the Bunnymen, Simple Minds, New Order, Bauhaus - gloomy psych rock. started wearing black
1982 - discovered Talking Heads. Discovered bowie and Iggy Pop
1983 - went and saw billy Bragg, took my O levels
1984 - everything but the Girl, Jesus and Mary Chain - bought most of Bowie's albums through the year - Heroes, Ziggy, Aladdin Sane, Lodger, Scary Monsters
1985 - the Fall, the Smiths (I was late), saw Nico and became a Velvet underground fan, half man half biscuit - still massively into Bowie and completed collection with Low, young Americans, Station to station - moved to London and started going to gigs on weekly basis.
1986 - the whole C86 thing - Weddoes, Primal scream et al - saw bowie and renounced him. Now more into Lou reed. MES is my hero.
1987 - Prince, Sugarcubes, age of Chance, J&MC, a million little indie bands
1988 - graduated; suddenly obsessed with Elvis costello
1989 - Pixies, My Bloody Valentine, House of Love, solo Morrissey, discovered blues, fell in love, got a job, bought a guitar and my first proper bike, started listening to Hip Hop for first time in my life. Lou Reed makes brilliant come back with "New York" album and go see Suzanne Vega. Go to America and discover country. Move into a house with three girls. 8)

then the 90s started - marriage and a mortgage followed shortly

it sounds like he's having a minor mental breakdown in song to me

I used to play the associates to my friends at school - and they thought I was weird and went back to their Bruce Springsteen records shaking their heads.

dammit! I didn;t see that coming - I really didn;t see that coming.

Mind you - I sort of got into Springsteen some time in the 90s. I see him as the sort of artist you get into when you reach middle age.

i should have qualified that with - if at all - of course. I only like about 3 or 4 of his records in total - Nebraska, the river, Darkness on the edge of town and that Pete Seeger project he did a couple of years ago.
