I don't know whether you have children or whether you want any but it might be a decision you have to face.

On the subject of being myself..yes I do believe it is probably the best course. I'd hope a woman my age would be canny enough to spot a faker or a liar tbh.
My personal motto has always been "tell the truth ..then you have nothing to remember"
As I now have bugger all as I gave "her" the house etc. whatever woman is interested in me would have to accept that all I have is me. Not a great proposition I have to say, but at least she wouldn't be after anything I haveThe universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle. ...Stapp’s Ironical Paradox Law

Don't tell them all about your exe's if you can help it Flash. The most important thing I have found is to make a woman genuinely laugh, then you will be quids in.0

flash , what a position to be , there is so much choice out there . personal grooming , make em laugh, please them first in bed ,boy the world is your oyster , and never say no if they want you to go down on them0

I've never had a problem making women laugh. i probably rate that as one of my strong points to be perfectly honest. Whether it be with me or at me
But seriously, I love seeing women smile and laugh so that's a win-win I reckon.

Beast with two backs
Meaning
Partners engaged in sexual intercourse.
Origin
This modern-sounding phrase is in fact at least as early as Shakespeare. He used it in Othello, 1604:
Iago:
"I am one, sir, that comes to tell you your daughter and the Moor are now making the beast with two backs."
Shakespeare may have been the first to use it in English, although a version of it appears in Rabelais' Gargantua and Pantagruel, circa 1532. This was translated into English by Thomas Urquhart and published posthumously around 1693:
"In the vigour of his age he married Gargamelle, daughter to the King of the Parpaillons, a jolly pug, and well-mouthed wench. These two did oftentimes do the two-backed beast together, joyfully rubbing and frotting their bacon 'gainst one another."0 -
The best advice I can think of is to not talk too much about bikes. A girl I know is dating a cyclist (he's a hipster though) and when he starts to talk about his bikes she feels lost and can only manage to say things like "cool" and "wow, that's good".
Now, go out and have fun!0 -

carrock ...cheers for the interpretation. They didn't teach much (or any) Shakespeare back at my school in Oz .
Guys I'm no chiorboy (back off padre!!)
I do know how to "please" a woman in bed (or wherever else she fancies) that;s not the issue.
Its the social aspect I'm confused / wondering about. Bloody hell, Gene Simmons is envious of what I can do with a tongue  . Flash, I'm the same age as you and as far as I can tell the rules haven't changed much. I guess the biggest challenge at our age is where to meet them: I'll leave that one to you but. On the plus side you can now go out and date women a decade or so younger than you without breaking the law
The main thing is to get out there and enjoy yourself !"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
But that's the thing, that's how I am Av It . I really do care how (they) women feel. I was brought up to believe that I should respect and protect women, even if they don't respect themselves.
It maybe outdated and out of fashion but that's how I am. That much I do know about myselfThe universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle. ...Stapp’s Ironical Paradox Law

You seem like the perfect gentleman. Sadly my Mum has just got remarried and my sisters are both engaged. Otherwise I would be offering introductions.0 -

In answer to the question posed, would the answer " a bloody good see-ing to " be the obvious?0

Am I expected to pay for all of the drinks?
No, I would never expect anyone to pay for all of my drinks. It would make me feel as if they were trying to get me drunk.
However, if it was a meal, I would expect the tab to be picked up the first time (Otherwise, how would I know if it was a date?)
Am I expected to make the first move?
Yes, unless I am completely drunk and make the first move myself.
Am I expected to act the well mannered gentleman as I was brought up to be around women or do women preffer bad (badder) boys.
Go with being a gentleman but a bad boy behind closed doors.
Having said all of that, I still think the best thing to do is just to be yourself.
You do not want someone falling for you under a false pretence!!
BTW, where do people meet potential BF's and GF's these days? Where are all the singletons????

Wasn't going to add to this thread but the above question prompts me to do so.
Also, Flasheart, I've read you're earlier postings and do feel for you and I'm pleased you've had a lot of good support on here. Can I ask a question though? Are you sure you are ready for a relationship? It's been a pretty short time since your breakup; is a bit of serial female company what you really need rather than trying to find "the one"?
Anyway, the other question, where do you meet partners if you're middle aged and moving on. At work, maybe. Socially - how? - cycling, other sport, nightclass, mutual friends?
I've been a single parent for 8 years and decided I needed a serious life review. I was never going to meet anyone through work, social or sport so went to an online site - Guardian as it happens. And it's transformed my life in 4 months. Met a few interesting people and have found what I can only describe after three months as a potential life partner. A runner not a cyclist but nothing's perfect!
Good luck, keep posting for support and progress.Where the neon madmen climb0
