    Not convinced the intention of most people on a CM ride is actually to block the road. I'd agree there is an element, usually at the end, that seems to want to create a blockage, but most of the time the ride usually moves surprisingly quickly.

    I still find it interesting that drivers are remarkably tolerant of jams caused by large numbers of cars on journeys that are unnecessary. But not of being held up by large numbers of bikes.

    OK being held up by a traffic jam is one thing, being held up by slow moving cyclists more than three bikes across is another.

    If I'm stuck behind a car intent on going 15 - 20mph when its safe to do 30mph and there is nothing ahead then yes I get aggitated.

    Now I'm not sure how many of you have ridden over Waterloo brigde, but its wide, even before it narrows due to the underpass. For cyclists to be taking up the entire road and the entire length of the bridge is quite something...

    First off, most folk in london haven't heard of Critical Mass.

    Do any of there argument stand up to much? no. Do I think they do any good? no. this said I don't think they do much harm due to first off.

    But I agree they should be allowed to exist, that doesn't mean corking etc though, which is still not on.

    From what I've read the corking is too keep the CM together and stop cars getting stuck amongst cyclists, so it is on (You'd just end up with more "confrontation" which isn't good)

    thats because theres too many cars, not beacues the drivers have deliberately gone out of their way to get into peoples faces, if drivers tried critical mass tactics the entire city would be genuinely and literally gridlocked for miles in every direction.

    drivers may be ubiquitous and traffic may be heavy but compared the the CM'ers they're a model of consideration.

    Has that kind of militant behaviour ever raised sympathy for a cause? Look at those times when rail or tube workers go on strike: they may have a reasonable point to make, but it just causes hassle followed by resentment.

    I wonder how many of the CM members have written to their MPs, their councils or their employers to lobby for better conditions for cyclists.

    If you talk to mr average why they won't cycle to work occasionally on a sunny day and they will say "it is too dangerous"

    "Dangerous" is an easy excuse for being too lazy to try it. You get the same answer if you ask parents why they drive the mile to the school instead of walking every morning.
    The council in a local village called their bluff and put in guard railings on the footpath, I'd love to know what effect it had on the number of people driving to the school.

    For what it's worth I think it's good to have a 'mass' of people on the roads at once.

    It demonsatrates that cyclists are a potentially powerful lobby and will not always be pushed into the gutter.

    Yeah, being rude will upset people but you don't always get what you want by being polite all the time.

    Maybe CM doesn't say much more than 'We are here' but that's not a bad statement to make.

    I've never ridden with CM but I'm always happy to see it going by whether it's being held up on the top deck of a bus on Waterloo Bridge or from my bike, like last Friday when I waited a couple of minutes while it passed along theobald's rd.
