As we boldy, if privately figured out

So, if he does have an interesting prepatore that would indicate the other person spotted with him does too.

They love doing this on the eve-week of a grand tour. It's a sure fire way of getting your next year's budget approved if you're in the busting business.

Does the perpetrator have any priors or is his rap sheet clean?

Basso might be personally pleased with this - maybe he is a very good clean rider afterall...

    Translated (roughly):

MILAN, May 3, 2010 - It 'Pellizotti third in the Tour of Italy in 2009 and polka-dot jersey of the Tour de France that year, the big Italian who has stopped for the UCI biological passport irregularities. The runner-Doimo Liquigas, who has been informed of the procedure two months ago, is attributed to the abnormal variation of a value to an inspection by UCI on the eve of the Tour 2009. The UCI has asked the Italian federation to open an infringement procedure against the anti-doping rules of the runner. It is learned from sources close to the team.

Seems a bit weird to be caught just before the tour when he should have known he was going to be tested. Maybe he was banking on the bio passport not being as strict as it is or something.

Anyway, does this mean that he gets chucked out of the tour results and loses the polka-dot? Then again i dont think that Astarloza lost his stage after testing positive before the tour?

Things look very good for Evans.

A lot of pressure on Basso now.

They've drafted in Nibali to replace Franco so maybe not too much.

Basso has been going a lot better than Franco this year but maybe we now know why.

Pellizotti finished third in a race at the weekend. It makes you wonder why Liquigas were sending him to recce the Plan de Corones stage, if they knew he was going to get rumbled why were they supporting him?

Paddy said the riders had been informed, but not their teams. So it's possible they didn't know.

Ok, but you'd think a rider would say "look boss, I'm getting some heat here". And at the same time, because of the damage to a team's reputation and the impact on its sponsors that the team would be informed too...

...Although when it comes to damage limitation and public image, Pat McQuaid's busy unloading a double-barrelled shotgun into his feet.

With one Italian rider said "not to be riding the Giro d'Italia", are you thinking what I'm thinking when I read that Nibali has just replaced Pellizotti for the Giro?

    No. don't be silly now

Nibali is replacing Franco in the Leaky line up. He was accused of being trained by Dr F at the same time as Franco.

    They both did, yes

Poor old Liquigas - They did that "operation transparency" when in Tenerife to show journos they had nothing to hide and they get their backsides bitten by a 10 month old passport.

Well the list of Slovenian cyclists on teams big enough to be included in the bio passport isn't exactly huge.

Brajkovic, Spilak, Valjavec, Stangelj, Bozic, Bole, Koren. The last two have only stepped up to the big time in the last year, so that probably only leaves 5.
  • But the quote from Patti is a classic...

"We see no other reason other than a possible potential doping reason"

So if it's only possible and potential then he must consider there to be other reasons?

Mind you I won't even pick up the car keys before two coffees and a fish oil capsule.

    It's Valjavec according to Marca.

    Surprising, I'd heard other names.

It's all leaking out, this is being handled very badly.

Yes, if this were the Tour and it was L'Equipe leaking, imagine the rants if an English speaking rider were involved.
    Gutter press, bla, bla..........

    Anyhow.
The German news agencies are quoting UCI spokesman Carpani as saying a press release will be issued shortly with names in it.
So all will soon be officially revealed.

McQuaid loves to try and build up a bit of suspense. Davina McCall stylee, but without the hawtness.

It would make a good TV show. Assemble all the riders doing the Giro at the start and then announce McCall / Ant n'Dec style who's sitting in the ejector seat. And then zoom in up close for the "reveal" moment. I suppose the sport wouldn't even lose much credibility.
