yeah, everyone i have spoken to about them says that they are in another league compared to any other fork on the market. little bit of a gamble as i have never even seen a pair in real life, let alone ridden on any. but alas, I'm still riding my 2007 36 floats, and although they are still great forks, decided it was time to upgrade. it was a toss up between the deville's, or some 2011 36 floats. at the current price the devilles work out slightly cheaper, as well as having much longer service intervals so it was a no brainer really.
just waiting for payday so I can buy them outright and start playing with them!My Nukeproof Mega

Tell me about it
Sill, I refrained from ordering lime green rims at least
I'm justifying it to myself by saying this way I can uprate the rear from standard to 10mm QR and the front from standard to 9mm QR. It's a shady justification at best, bu it's enough for me.0 -

I'm one for thinking that a stiffer chainset is quite noticeable to anyone who rides technical singeltrack and above. I certainly noticed a difference going from Deore to XT years and years ago - haven't upgraded beyond XT in a long time though.0 -

Brand new SLX crankset versus a worn out Alivio crankset?
By crankset, if he means the cranks and chainrings then he will notice better shifting, in addition to stiffer cranks.
My lasting memories of my old Alivio cranks were that they kept coming loose and didn't last very long. I noticed a difference when I upgraded to XT (i think it was XT anyway)
Surely if something is worn out, you will pretty much always notice a difference when you upgrade to something new, otherwise how would you define worn out?
I'd rather have a brand new Deore crankset than a worn out XTR one.0 -
£15 from ebay, uncut and unmarked.
I'm slowly building up enough parts for the whippet, only wheels and frame left to go.Visit Clacton during the School holidays - it's like a never ending freak show.
Who are you calling inbred?0 -
it's definatley a law of depreciating returns as well. Alivio to SLX is a good move, but beyond SLX is only slight.
The only area I don't think applies here is in brakes where every extra hundred smackers makes a noticeable difference.0 -

ahh i've been there and done that. I got the axle of my 36 floats stuck a while ago. ended up spraying wd40 on it for a few days and driving it out with a hammer. i had to replace the bearings in my pro 2, but still cheaper than a new axle/set of lowers. now i always make sure there is a little spot of grease on the axle!My Nukeproof Mega
