threat to Moel Famau trails

Hi everyone many of you wont be aware but there is a proposed project that is already disrupting will and probably close a route on Moel Famau in NE Wales perminantly .
Go Ape are looking to put a total of 5 massive Zip wire across a valley on the east side of the mountain and use what is at present a MB route / bridleway to bus punters up in Transits, to scream and ball across this beautiful and peaceful part of Wales.
There are few enough MB routes in the area as it is and it looks like we will lose another one. The noise alone will be horendous not to mention the extra traffic and litter.
Be aware this wont be out of site in the trees .They will construct 60 ft towers to carry the wires, similar to cable car systems .Its a massive project covering an area bigger than the local village of Llanferres !
GoApe already have 22 ropes courses in the UK and are opening another 4 this year.
This sort of development has never been allowed in a AONB before ,but they have lots of influence and money.
We need your help to stop this find out more at

Looks like cracking fun.
Is it very sad that I'd never heard of Go Ape before today?
I think the IOM should get one of these, I can think of some great places to put one!
From my house down to my office would be one.0 -
Yeah they are amazing. Thoroughly recommend having a go if you get chance to.0
-
I hear they are opening one at Moel Famau. Might go there0
-
Fair point! Many thanks to the OP for bringing this to my attention. Would be a great site for one!0

Ian W It's sad that your maiden Post on BikeRadar is to try and rustle up support against a Go Ape venture in your back yard.Andy wrote:Yeah they are amazing. Thoroughly recommend having a go if you get chance to.
^^Now the "Tart" is tempting me to go to Cannock without my bike!^^
Back on topic, there's also a "Go Ape" at Bracknell Forest (Swinley) too
I don't find them noisy or destructive. In fact at Swinley and Cannock the "Go Ape" facilities have absolutely no impact on the mountain biking at all.
On the upside it gets people to venture to the great outdoors even if they don't own a mountain bike..0 -
I reckon most MTBers would welcome this kind of thing on the trails tbh.
In fact, looking at the map on the Go Ape webby, there seems to be one at most of the most popular MTB type areas in England, there's also another one up at coed-y-brenin too.
They are not destroying anything as far as I can see, just making use of what's already there, in that way, quite similar to MTBers building trails.
IanW, I bet you're a rambler arent you0 -
there is one in delamere where i ride. it's no problem at all. pretty good fun too0

If anything they add to the amenities. Additional parking, toilets maybe even a cafe.0

The op's group on Facebook...
Clearly a walker trying to boost numbers of support...
I'm of the same view as the above people...
To many Walkers appear to think that the countryside is their own little preserve and that those of us that wish to use it in other ways, such as on bikes or flying through the trees on zip lines are in league with the devil...
Stop being a typical, narrow minded selfish rambler...
:roll:0 -
Oh the ironywhy should it be exclusive to people who want to piss around on zip lines. Not meaning to single anyone out but there are few places left in this country for "dog walkers and ramblers". That's all I'm trying to say
=I don't understand what's going on and the fact that other people will still be allowed to use the forest just as they are now. But even so, in the name of stopping exclusion of people, we should exclude all people who aren't dog walking
Dimebar! :roll:0 -
OP gets my nomination for Webster of the day, and also Thread backfire of the year.
Fail!0 -
bails87
Good catches there!
Today they rally us for our support to oppose the zip lines and tomorrow they'll lobby against us because we're not rambling or dog walking.0 -

Fail!
pmsl
I'll add that if the op temporarily directs his enthusiasm for "a cause" towards dog walkers removing their animals excrement from paths and trails then I'll change my view of him. Until then, he is a tool.0 -
I noticed on his faceblog thingymajiggy page that someone said something along the lines of "dont do a go-ape, do a bike track instead". To which the reply was something like "no, they both ruin the AONB"
As Bails said already, seems like they want our help to stop this, then they'll be campaigning against us.0 -

quite, where is the "Say yes to GO-Ape at Moel Famau" group? I'll sign up for that0

There is one0 -

Signed up, sounds like a worthy campaign to bring life and investment into the area. Well done to the OP for accidentally gaining support for the opposition!Uncompromising extremist0

Those groups will keep me entertained for months0

hahaha, I just went back in to check the "fans" list, it looks like the last 4 or 5 people on there came from here.
This thread is the biggest OP fail I've ever seen.0 -
