Just a " shitty " aluminium Trek 1.2, a good heart and the legs to match! No point in having the kit unless you can do it justice
My hero
Some people are easily pleased. I have a KOM jersey, and a yellow one. i think they lok nice. I climb like a rock, in fact i cycle like rock in general. I love watching cyclists overtake, it passes the time.Dan0 -

You're not from Devon are you?
Someone did this to me on Sunday.
When my rear mech was broke and I could hardly pedal home. Didn't even stop the first time he went by when I was sat at the road side desperately trying to fix it!
Pro race jerseys are great, I got the new Saxo one. The sky one, however - sucks. I don't mind paying extra for a really good looking jersey but Sky just isn't that. Makes me think of boring people in black cars who obsess over looking professional and acceptable. If someone made a jersey to turn up to a board room meeting in, sky did.The British Empire never died, it just moved to the Velodrome0 -
Isn't it unfair that Sky are forcing people to go and buy this kit. You would think that in this day and age people should be free to choose to buy whatever they like without being forced into it my a large corporation. Surely something can be done about this? From reading the comments on Skys facebook page there are is a large number of people affected by this.0

Yes, that's right. Sky are forcing you to buy this kit. I woke up this morning to find James Murdoch and Dave Brailsford perched on the end of my bed with a kitten held over a bucket of water telling me to buy the kit, or the kitten got it. I tried to resist, but after a couple of dunkings, I gave in and bought it.
What are you on about? In this day and age there are a million cycling kits out there you can buy - you could buy a Rapha kit for about £100, you can buy second hand kits on ebay. Hell, you could even make your own out of a set of curtains.
Maybe Sky and Addidas should just give all this kit away for free. Like Saxo/Rabobank/Caisse/Euskatel/Radioshack/Garmin/Astana etc etc...http://www.georgesfoundation.org

On the other hand, while the guy you passed may not have the natural talent, he does seem to have a lot more disposable income.Twitter: @RichN950 -

I'm so good I don't even need a bike - just a pair of trainers.0 -
I'm fickle - I'll buy whatever kit I like the look of - and matches my bike.
When did jerseys get so expensive though ? £100 for a bit of lycra ? Thats nuts.0 -
I'm with Cougie - wear whatever you like, ride whatever you like.
If I need rules, regs and un required comments from some snearing local super star then I'll join a club.
As for the plain t-shirt, shorts & trainers ....one of them passed me the other day while I was on my second best bike (not a Trek 1.2) and full Assos kit. I was on the last mile of a nice, testing, hilly 80 mile ride; he was clearly on his way to the shops or similar - after all no one with any sense would go out for a decent ride wearing that would they? If it made his day passing me, with no knowledge of me or my circumstances, then I am delighted to spread a little sunshine into his life for a brief moment!0 -
If I am riding in my La Vie Claire top and I see a farmer, do I have to get off and punch him?___________________

Dude, I can't believe you even have to ask!"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

I was being sarcastic.
Buy what you want and wear what you want. If you dress like a pro, expect a bit of piss taking but it's all in good fun.0 -

Personally I like the kit, especially the fact it's not completely plastered with sponsors. Won't be buying it, but I do like the colour scheme.0
-
I wished it cost more, everything that costs more is better, and it would keep the sort of riff-raff on this forum away from it. Maybe they could add some unobtainium to it somehow, that would improve it and then they could increase the price.
  :twisted:0 -
Oakley DO use Unobtainium in their glasses !0
-
If anyone was in any doubt as to the tightness of cyclists they should read this topic and the pathetic cries on the team sky facebook pages! It's a good bit of kit, made 'by' adidas and sells for a reasonable price. I've got a banesto kit from 1996 that is still in good nick, unlike other inferior brands that barely last a season. You gets what you pays for.0
-
Aah yes - I have that kit still ! Its a bit summery though so doesnt get that many outings, but its nice.
Hmm - assuming I paid about £35 in 1996 - and according to the CPI calculator :
In 2008, £35.00 from 1996 is worth
£49.20 using the retail price index.
£57.20 using average earnings.
So between 50 and 60 quid would seem reasonable for a jersey now ?0 -

And allowing for a 40% slide in sterling in that time we get closer to £90.
They can charge what they like, its a luxury, so those that don't think it worth the money should keep their money. It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0 -
cougie wrote:Oakley DO use Unobtainium in their glasses !
Well, mmm, they use a rubbery plastic and call it Unobtainium. I was laughing at the idea that you make something stupidly expensive and people then think it's good. My comments were not sincere. Stuff costs what it costs, if it's bread, rice or milk it matters, if it's a cycling jersey it just doesn't. The Sky Jersey being discussed probably costs a few pounds at most, the rest is paying for the branding. But that's fine, like so many others of said you don't have to buy it.

I'm thinking of converting my Aldi £5.99 black jersey into a Sky jeresy?
I'll use some jeans cut offs for the middle and tipx the Sky logo on? Then down to halfords and get some union jack bumper stickers to stick on the side and use the tipx again for my name and the three stripes??
Jobs a good un!!0 -

That's gonna look classy! You could even tipex your name on the side of the jersey, just like the pros!0 -
Buy it if you want to, if you don't, then shhh!0

O yea! I'm definitely going to get some looks??
Thinking of turning all my jerseys into pro-jerseys, by using empty crisp packets and steamed off labels from tinned food cans and stapling them at odd angles over the jersey.0 -

No. This was on the main road from Paisley > Glasgow in Scotland - the A761 i think it is.
And yeah, RichN95, I think you're right. But then, me having to scrimp and save all my busking money for my bike makes it just a bit more special than if I can splash my cash around and buy whatever the hell I like. I think that means I win- no?The most painful climb in Northern Ireland http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs200.snc1/6776_124247198694_548863694_2335754_8016178_n.jpg0 -

Hmm, not so sure that's such good idea. OK, it's gonna look amazing and cool, but don't you think your going to get a bit hot. I don't think crisp packets are going to be very breathable...0 -

No. No one wins.
Most of us have been skint at one point. One day you might have some cash to wave around.Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -

+1.
Just because the guy has an expensive bike and team kit doesn't mean he has loads of money. You don't know what he goes without to buy what he wants. You can't make judgements about someone from a glance at a bike they happen to be riding. Maybe he's skint and longs for a carbon, so keeps test riding them from different shops0 -
I can honestly say I have never sniggered at another rider (irrespective of whether he/she is slower/faster/fitter or fatter than I) on the basis of their bike and/or kit.
Anyone who does really needs to get a life.0
