    That's top!

I'm a newbie but starting to average around 23mph on a 10 mile commute. Ambition is to set a speed camera off? Possible? I'd love to get a speed ticket on a bike!

I averaged 15.4mph today over 16 miles with some horrible headwinds and traffic filtering.

Coming home I managed to hit 30.8mph which is another short-term goal achieved.
 Never trust a phones GPS - they're bollocks! A Garmin has shown me up to be a stinking liar - Fastest recorded on the flat has been 24.3mph.

So no, I'm nowhere near the 30mph club. [/Blame Wiggle]

What would you say if I said mine was 30.2 MPH... On a MTB! To be fair I cycle in the middle of a gaggle of wind farms and there was a monster tail wind. I'll not say what my speed was going into it

I managed a 32.7 (the point 7 IS important) today on flat road, no traffic so I could veer over into the middle of the road. How cab boonen et al manage higher than for 100's of meters is beyond me.

Depends how hard I'm being pushed.

On a normal ride on the flat I'd hope to doing 19-20mph.

At the end of a TT when the guy behind me was trying to pass me on the run in to the finish (I could hear him coming with his fancy disk wheel :D ) I managed to haul myself over 32mph.

Surprising what stubborness can bring out of me :D

Can't get above 25mph unassisted, on the same stretch of road I've done 30mph and could have gone quicker if the bus driver infront had put his foot down.

  • Managed 30mph today on a stretch that I love. No wind, just me and the road and I felt like I wanted to go and did. This was after 30miles in the saddle. I also topped my previous fastest, and got to 41mph on a downhill section. Chuffed with that, but would like to go faster!!!!

I also did about 32mph on the flat yesterday (About 30mi in too). I saw a roady in the distance and tried to catch up as fast as possible, so i shifted up a couple of gears, and put some power down. Caught him up, and overtook at speed. Tried my hardest to keep the speed up (I'd dropped to about 26mph here) until i was well past him, then i could relax.. Just needed to make sure that i wasn't caught and overtaken myself by the guy i'd just passed!

I also hit 41mph on a quick downhill too, that's my fastest i've ever been on the road bike, all helped by my new tyres which i fitted just before the ride. Want to go faster too.. And it's nice that cars just stay behind you at that speed.. Tucked down spinning when going fast!

Avocets were never that accurate anyway :)

Can't recall it exactly but it had a pretty dicky hairpin towards the bottom of it - top half was wooded. The rest of the day was character building, with a chaingang home to Widnes via Rhyl and Mold. 135 miles the day before a maths O level and boy did i have the tan lines to prove it!
  • 49mph

    Downhill

    On my road-prepped MTB :-)

    Probably with a tailwind too...

    Good topic.

My personal best is: 41.8mph. That was down Parblod Hill with a rucksack on my back. The extra weight made me go faster.

My terminal velocity seems to be 38mph (down hill) cant seem to beat this without assistance (drafting/extra weight of back pack/tail wind)

Ive done 33mph on a flat under my own steam loads of times.

Will Aero Wheels help me beat my Terminal Velocity of 38mph?
