Thanx, I miss Frank. Not for his music particularly, but he was crazy.

HTF do you insert images again?

    We all miss Frank.

Way Off Topic: I once shared a Greyhound with him from Toronto to NY. I was near the back, he was at the front. I was gassing the trip through with his guitar player of the time ( to my shame I forget who ), and never got to talk to him. He was about to form a new band, and hadn't got it together quite. A year or two later I saw him at his first UK gig at the Albert Hall. And a few times after that, in other incarnations of the Mothers. Yes, miss him a lot.

Funnily enough, about a year ago the original Mothers line up - like me, all old geezers - passed through the UK on a tour and played at my local 'Picture-Drome' in Holmefirth. A small theatre. I didn't have it in me to go and see them. It's a wee bit painful to see how we've all turned grey, and the spark that was Frank, of course was absent.

Happily, even if he's not gigging, Beefheart is still about. :D

One cover inspired the other :

Making a cup of coffee is like making love to a beautiful woman. It's got to be hot. You've got to take your time. You've got to stir... gently and firmly. You've got to grind your beans until they squeak.
And then you put in the milk.
  • So glad they made a 'Best of'...

Maybe we should start a "Memories of Frank" thread :)

Hot Rats was the first "real" Zappa that I got into (after the inevitable Joe's Garage stuff)

Saw him in concert around 20 years (gulp!) ago in the UK - Awesome.

Not the first one I bought but pretty early in the vinyl buying days.

    Prog lives on.

One of the best debut albums ever as well as one of the best full stop.

    +1

That Strokes album is genius, played it non stop when it came out and still a regular on the iPod. Another seminal album from my formative years by Sir William of Bragg!

I think this was the original cover, but because of the sweetie labels and other branding they were made to change it.
  • I have the original cover (the sweet wrapper one) - worth any money?

Ah, you guys are talking my language! Thirty years on and I know every note, word, scratch and plink on this off by heart. Their finest work I reckon.

    Designers Republic sleeve art. Superb

PWEI! They played at one of our end of year p1ss ups at university. The students union set up a huge marquee with loads of bands playing. I remember dancing and someone handed me a small bottle of poppers and telling me to sniff it for the rush. I took a massive snort from the bottle and it felt like my head and heart were going to explode...
